Autocar Info on 08 M3
Guys, I dunno if it’s a repost or if this is even real (looks photoshopped to me but damn I love it )..I’m in Singapore now and found this a few days ago on an Indonesian Autocar magazine, took the pics with my cellphone so sorry for the poor quality..check the pics, sorry its in Indonesian but I’ll translate it for you guys
The new M3 will use a smart electronic system called Flexray: a high speed network that will enable sharper and quicker throttle response, electronic dampening and gear shifting. It will debut in Nov 07 and go on sale in early 08. The new M3 will use V8 engine, which is adapted from the current V10 (420hp) M5 engine, accompanied with 7speed paddle-shift and will have better handling and balance. Advantages: the new engine block is shorter than the previous’ inline 6, has better weight distribution and will be quicker. Available transmissions on the new M3: 7speed manual/automatic and DSG with double clutch. Forgive me if my English translation isnt satisfactory but that’s it for now. Please don’t slam me, I’m only posting what I saw. Happy holidays

"DSG" tranny option, not SMG? So, maybe the rumors are true...BMW dumps the SMG for a double clutch DSG???? This would make sense since enthusiasts have been saying that the Audi DSG is superior to BMW's SMG tranny. Also, I wonder why the price says $104,500 U.S. dollars...must be the price in Singapore that's equivalent to U.S. dollars...things like this are always so much more $$ in other countries...OMG!

I agree with what some of the other posters have said on this thread. The hood does not look right. No bulge, and the lines from back to front should meet up with the kidney grilles. And yes, I thought the headlights would be different with the M3--more E92ish.

A dual-clutch SMG/DSG would be nice. It didn't mention how many gears the DSG would have. At one point, there was rumor of an 8-speed DSG. I wonder if the 7-speed is the SMG III or a brand new automatic. If it is a new automatic, I wonder if that would migrate into the current models like the 335i.
As long as they give the DSG a true launch control, things look promising. |
