More options would be nice!

Don't you guys wish you can add more factory installed options? Like Porsche has with their exhaust. A short shifter. Ceramic bug brake kit?

That would be sweet...

Sorry just impatiently anticipating delivery of my car.

There lot's of choice OEM-aftermarket from BMW, why do you want more, when you can choose from the standard options and the retrofit options???

It's a BMW..not a Porsche. Porsche is still a boutique manufacturer to a certain extent so they can afford to charge people ridiculous amts of money for their options (BMW options aren't cheap either).

Some of the Porsche options are more motorsport orientated than BMW and far more expensive.

Porsche and options..

I remember looking at Boxsters a few years back.
"footwell lighting" was $700 or some similar ridiculous amount.
I knew then and there that I was looking at the wrong marque. Incredible cars, incredible performance..... but, there's a fine line between spending money and wasting money.
I can only assume that if the CEO of Porsche was there at that moment, he would have explained that I am most likely not their target customer.
Fair enough.

Agreed. Looking for leather upholstery? There's 4 or 5 different versions, and they go from "expensive" to "OHMIGAWD". It's certainly nice that you can also opt for even more leather (headliner, visors, etc.), but that is even pricier. And cruise control is an option on a $50k car?

The other thing that surprised me is that the configurator on the Porsche web site is pretty cumbersome. There were some interlocking options (kinda like Premium Package on our cars means you'll get leather), but their site made it a lot harder to figure out, and you had accept every change. Imagine "you've selected premium package which requires de-selecting leather upholstery". Now repeat that for the BT phone, and the sunroof, and the BMW Assist, etc.

You can order BMW parts such as a short shifter (SS knob atleast) from any dealership. Just because its not available on your order summary sheet doesnt mean its not available...

But Porsche is much more of a sports car company than luxury company. BMW is more of a luxury car company, with a few models that stretch into the sports car category. So Porsche would be more likely to offer 'sports car' options than BMW.

You dont see Porsche's with Active Cruise Control, Active Steering, Power Sunshades, Comfort Access and a few other luxury items... Its just a tradeoff between different car manufacturers...

I priced a Cayenne S here in Canada once with the online configurator, ended up with $45,000 in options, I kid you not! I didn't even take everything that was offered...

I would like to see ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel offered on the 3'ers though.

I would agree, they're just "options". If you dont want em, dont order em. But its nice to have the choice... plus if you lease you're only paying for the depreciation on an item vs. having to pay full price aftermarket.

Example: say you can get a "sport exhaust" for $1000. If you lease you just pay the depreciation for the portion you use. If you add aftermarket you hvae to pay full price then try to sell later.... Anyway

Loaning is not owning. My father always loans his cars, but thats probably cuz he never drives any of the cars anyways, but I always have this uneasy feeling that I'm just "borrowing" the car for a year or two if I loan. anyways, I was lookin' to buy the cayman too.. but I cursed at the options and never went back to the site. :[

Although, I have a Boxster S (the white one in the info) it has the bare essentials only.
Aftermarket mod: $3 mountain airfreshener cube sitting on the dash.

Yeah... go to the porsche website and buid your own Cayman. Option such as colored tach and speedo gauges, colored seatbelt locks, etc are available...for a very hefty price. I like having competition for aftermarket BMW parts... all the tuners get to compete woth design and price.

BTW: I had a boxster before the e90, and the aftermarket market was thinner and pricier.

+1

I wanted the iPod MOST Integration for be done at the factory ... but nooooo, not available. So I had to pass, I could not bear the thought of butter fingers at the dealer taking apart my brand new rattle free dash.

Oh, well I guess I'll have to do with the MP3 CDs in the CD changer for now... it's quite cool as you can have different folders and play lists with your songs + you also get all your song titles :rocks:

I got tired of playing with the iPod and the Aux.

LSD would also have been a great factory installed option on the 335.
