ideal set up for my car...please advise

was told from **********...

"The setup that would work perfectly with your 06 330xi is the 19x8.5 ET35 with a 235/35/19 in the front and 19x9.5 ET33 with a 265/30/19 in the rear"...

im guessing he knows his stuff, but im a complete idiot when it comes to this ha...

so im ready to pull the plug on rims. im looking for new and used packages. the offset is a little bit of a concern. i might buy everything in pieces...the rims here, the tires there bla bla...when i take them to a shop to mount and balance do they supply the spacers?! do the spacers create the offset?? will they ask heyy man what offset do you want?? or will they know for an absolute certainty that you always run an offset of 35 in the front and a 33 in the rear with these wheels and tires???

Wow, you are a newbie!!

The wheels that were suggested by **********s are built with a front offset of 35 and rear of 33. They can't be changed...you can add spacers if you want the rims to stick out more but you have to buy those separately..

Those are pretty good specs for your car...once they're on, you can judge whether or not you want to add spacers

Just make sure that you either buy them with all-season tires or switch back to your stocks when winter comes because you obviously can't run summer performance tires in winter

i think i like these...decent price...decent style...the offset is 32...soooooo let me see here...if the default offset is 32 then i need a 3 mm spacer for the front to create a 35 offset and i need a 1 mm spacer for the rear to make a 33 offset?! ummmm carry the one haha !

Why would you run staggered with AWD?

Honestly i was just relying on advice from **********. I was guessing you can run a stagger on an AWD car if you pay very close attention to the rolling diameter of the tire. Typically if the difference in rolling diameter is less than 5% you're fine.

Im running the same exact size and offset on an XI as stated by **********s. And you will be less than 1% as you can verify at the top of the page. And when you add spacers the offset decends, 35 + 5mm spacer = 30et offset.

what "look" are you going for? aggressive? conservative? everyone says "aggressive", but how much are you willing to do to get that look? roll your fenders? drop the car? negative camber?

I suggest you take a step back and find pics of what you like, then you can determine what wheel diam/width/offset to get.

I can help clarify for this for you as well. For example, if the wheel is has an offset of 35 and you put a 5mm spacer, it would in turn make the offset on the wheel 30. The numbers get subtracted and not added like you did earlier. Feel free to contact me if you have any quesitons at all!

Same reason people run staggered with RWD, it looks good...

You want to keep the difference in rolling diameter less than 1%, not 5%...I really wouldn't bother with spacers to start. Those specs are good and I think you'll be pleased. There are really no "default" offsets. Manufacturers offer different offsets for different cars and based on the look people are going for. The lower the offset, the more the wheel will stick out...hence, people run lower offsets to get the wheel flush with the fender

8.5 et35 and 9.5 et33 is pretty "standard" fitment for the Xi.
most wheels don't come with spacers and adding spacers will always stickthe wheels outward and decrease the offset number

for example: +35 with 5mm spacers become +30

we have done Xi set ups that are more aggressive than the 8.5et35 / 9.5et33. The BMW X drive is a set up based on the original rear wheel drive format and seems to be fine with more aggressive staggering compared to other cars such as Audi.

having said that.. a good rule of Thumb for BMW Xi is that you keep the rolling diameter within 3%. 1% is a little tough and 5% is little too much.

we usually run 235/35-19 tires front and 265/30-19 tires on the rear. we have also done 235/35-19 and 275/30-19 combos that really has not affected the Xi driveability at all.

hope this helps....

Sorry, but the primary reason to run a staggered upset with RWD is not to look good. It's to have more traction in the rear for acceleration and so that your rear end doesn't spin out.

+1 on this.

ET35 and ET33 is a good set up for RWD or AWD E9X cars. I've got tons of wheels in that fitment such as the V710s:

Oh really? I run summer tires all year around, including "winter" (whatever that is) here in Central TX.

He's right though - and I suspect that little "snowflake" icon that comes on with a "ping" when the temperature gets to 37 degrees is a warning to remind us to be careful on our summer stickies. Not that it happens very often down this way.

We have done a handful of packages like this for customers all the time. We not yet found any side affects from running staggered wheels with the proper sizes on an Xi.

8.5 +35 and a 9.5 +33 with a 235 front and a 265/275 rear is spot on!
