My new 335d SE Coupe!

Im new to this forum, just picked up my 335d SE Coupe.

After a spell of coming out of the Bmw marque, previously had 318ci, 330d sport and 325ci cab, i moved to a range rover sport TDV6 HSE for a while, then an Audi RS4 B7 4.2 V8, feels good to be back in the Bmw marque!

Impressions so far, superb build quality, excellent fittings and materials in the car, i have most toys in mine, the Bluetooth is better then ever, folding mirrors are a nice touch, and the sport seats are increadibly comfortable and supportive. Loving it.. however the ride is a little crashy on bad surfaces and the software on the I drive is a bit slow, keeps taking a while to select varying options, like radio station/inputting sat nav destinations..

But these are just minor niggles.. the engine is a monster, having come out of an RS4.. obviously performance lacking was always going to be an issue until my E92 M3 shows up (whenever that does..) so this seemed like the perfect stop gap.. massive torque, massively impressive pickup, and all with an everday MPG of around 25-30.. superb..

Steering is superb, and the car handles like a dream.. in this week's wet conditions, there is significant wheelspin due to all that torque, but the traction control keeps this all in check without restricting progress completely! Can't wait for dryer days..

Without further ado.. here are some pics of my new toy:

Spec:

Sat Nav Prof, Bluetooth, Sparkling Graphite with Cream Beige Dakota Leather,
Xenons, 19" Wheels, Folding Mirrors, Extended Light Pack, 6CD, Hifi Speaker System, Black Headlining, sun protection tinted glass, tracker system.

Bought it as an Ex Demo, so got a bit of a write down allowance granted by Bmw/Sytner.

Hope you all like it.

You must be happy.

I'm averaging about 35mpg (can't get it ti drop below 34mpg) - all types of driving from run-in, town traffic to a jaunt across Europe. It is amazing considering the performance on offer.

Have to agree, it's a novelty seeing the traction light flickering at 60 mph while lightly accelerating on the greasy winter roads

I'm now feeling the engine loosen up. Pulls like a train. Instant pull. Any revs.

Have a look in the Electronics section to see how to add Speed Cameras to your SatNav It was great to have them displayed as I drove through Switzerland/France/Luxembourg/Belgium/Scotland.

I still don't really understand why you don't get the diesel variants, they sell more diesels then they do petrols nowadays in every other market around the world.

Range Rover Sport isn't offered in diesel guise either is it in the US? You're missing out, its a different kind of fun, and on the motorway/highway and on high speed runs, they are more useable then petrol engined cars.. the new TDV8 variants coming out will be awesome.. 360bhp!

I had an E46 330d Sport saloon before, and that was good enough with only 184bhp compared this this latest incarnation with 280 odd bhp.. may get it remapped/chipped furher and that would be encroaching on M3 E46 territory which would be silly for a diesel!

Awesome car. You might want to swap out the rfts for a set of non-rft Michelin PS2s. The change in ride is substantial: the little jarring bumps disappear, but roadholding, steering response, and handling improve.

Thanks mate, i think this maybe worth considering, but any mods etc all depend on when the M3 is going to land.. im trying to not spend anything on this car, that i won't recoup on exit (so not a lot of things will fit into that bracket really..) hmm..

I change my cars far too often, and so try to minimise any mods/money spent on the car, as more often then not, you won't get hardly anything back for the expense when it comes to resale.

Tyres i could possible reuse on the M3, which will most probably come with RFT's too.. and i can't see them having bigger then 19" wheels for the upgraded option.. hmm.. you might be onto something there SDoc..

I used to run my 330d Sport on the jittery Sport suspension and MV alloys on Pzeros front wheels, and Michelin F1 Sports on the rear, as they were chunkier tyres and high speed driving i had the feel from the front tyres, but the grip from the rear which was quite tail end happy too in the ice/water conditions..

Great car but the stearing wheel is on the wrong side. I hope they gave you a good deal on it. Ha. OBTW, what are the hp, torque, and 0-60,62 mph numbers for this badboy?

I am not a fan of popping the rfts off and on, but if you replace them with the PS2s while you are waiting on the M3, then put them back on when you sell/trade it, my guess is that you would lose very little as OEM tyres with new tread are a resale+. And if you still have useable tread on the PS2s then they will be compatible with the 19" M3 wheels. They (PS2s) may even be OEM on the M3. And it would be nice to have a set to smoke...

Expect a 9/07 SOP for the M3. Have fun with the 335d in the interim. I'm waiting to see how the E91 M3 pans out.

Hmm.. Doc, you have a point here mate..
May be worth going and having a chat with my tyre suppliers, also car nuts who run an E46 M3 Cab as their everyday car.. and who told me when i had the RS4, don't worry about the 19" wheels, we can sort them through a supplier we get the M3 tyres off.. they may just beable to sort me out here, and as you rightly said.. be good to have a set to smoke! if the need/desire arose..

Congrats on the 335d Coupe, though a 4.2 RS4 isn't a bad thing either.

Welcome here.
