2nd gear delay or my imagination...?

something curious seems to be happening........when I'm on the freeway, and overtaking in the higher gears, there is no issue. But it seems that when I'm in 2nd gear, it almost feels like the clutch is slipping under full throttle. I actually "raced" an M3 the other day and the 2nd gear "slippage" I feel may have contributed to my loss (of course i could blame my inability to shift gears properly...but unlikely....).

Does anyone have a similar thing happen to them or am I just having the "getting used to the power" blues? Could it also be a timing issue or ECU problem? Perhaps I should bring it into the dealer - but if I do, what should I request them to check specifically? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely (the noob who loves his car way too much),

SROC3

Try disactivating DSC* and try it again

*(quick press on the button) ... leaving DTC activated.

The car has so much torque, I noticed that DSC will cut in even on dry pavement on spirited driving.

So take it off and watch your puppy

If you are skilled enough and brave enough ... then go all out and disactivate DSC and DTC; that will let you know if you suck at shifting or not.

Garage List
You should get pretty decent wheel spin going from 1st to 2nd
It happens even on my 2001 330Ci when shifted right
DTS kills the power when it detects spin, so disable all electronics completely when you race
Just be careful

So I tried it and the "loss of power" feeling is not when i'm shifting from one gear to the next, but rather when I'm in 2nd gear at about 2500rpm, then I pass a car and decide to floor it - it seems to really pull (as it should) from 2500 to 4000, then above 4500 the engine still screams but the "pull" is not as present anymore. 3rd is fine all throughout the rpm band. I'm pretty sure it's not slippage, as the DTC/DSC light does not flicker at all during this process. Any thoughts on this?

Peak HP is 300 @ 5800RPM
Torque 300 from 1400 to 5000 RPM

You're getting close to peak torque ... maybe normal.

If you're still not happy, take it to the dealer, try an other one and compare.

As I've heard some members had some issues with a certain software release version. Dealer did update or fix and car was better.

Here is very very good review and detailed comparo of two BMW 335i with same specs:

The is the details.

Good luck.
