Have you ever had to reboot a 335?
This has happened only once in 3600 miles. As I shifted to neutral coming to a stop light, the tach went just below 500 and the car shuddered. Although the idle RPM went back to around 600, the car kept shaking.
I was making a left turn and the engine seemed to be misfiring and very rough and didn't have any power. Once the turn was over, I pulled over and turned the engine off, counted to 20 and restarted it. No problems ever since. Shawn Phoenix |

How low on gas were you? I have had this happen when i was really low on gas
Also, did you park on an incline before that drive? For me, low gas + parked on incline over night + cold weather = needed a reebot Only once though - no warning / check lights Last edited by RiXst3r; 12-27-2006 at 02:41 PM.. |

I had half a tank of gas. I had not parked on an incline or driven on anything but flat roads for a couple of days before. Oil temp. was above 220 degrees at the time. I have never used anything but quality premium name brand gas. No warning lights of any kind went on. It didn't feel like fuel starvation or water in the fuel at all. It felt like engine management, timing etc. was not working right. Usually fuel problems would creat surges or hesitation, this was an engine that was working but at a totally unacceptable level of smoothness. I didn't let it go on for more than 20 seconds of driving though. Although I thought about it, I have not stopped by the dealership to see if there is anything out of the ordinary in the memory.

I ran into a similar problem. I wasn't getting any sound from the car. Radio, CD, Navigation, etc... nothing worked except the 3 beeps you here before the turn of the hour.
I ended up shutting the car off about 10seconds, turned her back on and it is working fine. 1st issue, but very strange. |

maybe he saw 300 degrees as the car missfired (or whatever it did), and then the gauge went down to normal? Who knows, but 300 degrees is def. a lot.

Sorry guys. 300 was a typo. I meant to say it had warmed up to the normal temp., one or two ticks after the larger hash in the center of the dial.
Sorry to give everyone a heart attack. I know how sensitive we are with so many of these turbo engines blowing up. Shawn Phoenix |

Resolution:
The problem happened again. This time the engine had much less power coming up a long incline. Turning the engine off and on restored power. I took it into the dealer Saturday morning. They diagnosed it as a bad high pressure fuel pump within a couple of hours and arranged for a loaner. The first problem occurred at 3500 miles and again at 3800 miles. I got a 325 as a loaner while the SA emailed BMW for authorization. They replaced the pump Monday, test drove the car for four miles, washed it and I picked it up around 3:00 pm. This board was very useful in searching "335" and "fuel pump". One thread had a copy of a BMW service bulletin talking about n54 engines produced between 6/06 and 9/06 and specific computer codes and test procedures in response to customer complaints similar to mine. The bulletin emphasized that BMW will approve the pump replacement only with proof of test results and only when a customer complains. It turned out to be a very positive experience for me. The blue, automatic 325 loaner was a completely different animal than my 335i mt. It was fun to drive but made me really appreciate my car when I got it back. Again, thanks for all the feedback and the great body of knowledge available on this forum. Shawn Phoenix |
