Vibration at +100km/h speed with BMW Replice Wheels

Bought a set of used BMW Replica Wheels, reference photo below;

Wheels are 18x8.5. Front offset is +35, rear offset is +20.

All tires are Lexani N3000, size 225-40R18

http://www.lexanitires.com/2007/n300_225_40_18.htm

When first installed I noticed vibrations, so took the wheels to be roadforce balanced, came back that the front passenger wheel was bent. After having the wheel fixed and re-roadforce balnced, thought I would be good to go with a nice some ride like the OEM.

Unfortunately that is not the case , still getting vibration at +100km/h speeds with these wheels/tires. The ride is smooth with OEM rims/run-flats.

Any suggestions on how to fix the issue? Do I need hub rings with these wheels? How would I tell?

Current tire pressures are set at front: 33PSI, rear 39PSI. Could this be a source of issue? The OEM tire pressure for my car, with 225/50R16 run-flats is Front: 29PSI, Rear 33PSI

Car is a 2006 323i c/w sports package.

Thanks,

I had vibration problems as well. Turns out I had very little tread left on my tires. If there's no problem with your wheels, then it's probably your tires or alignment. My 2c

I decided to upgrade from stock to a 235/35/19 F and 265/30/19 R tire configuration with Hankook V12 runflats and the ride has been ultra smooth ever since.

Good luck.

The wheels may require hub rings. I would pull the wheels off and double check the hub bore to see if it is a 72.6

2nd case could be that the wheel is still out of round after the repair was done.

3rd case could be that the tire is out of balance.

Bought a new pressure gauge and end up dropping the pressure in the rear by about 2 PSI and ride seems smoother...will need to play with the pressures some more. Also corrected the front pressures, driver side was 1 PSI higher then passenger.

Will pull the wheels off again this weekend and check the hub bore. Will it be stamped or need measured?

2nd Case - I have the wheel re-balanced after the repair by a different shop, came back good.

3rd case - hope not, dont really want to by new tire(s) just yet as these have some good thread left.

Not my first choice of tire, but that is what the used set came with. Pretty sure same as Nexen N3000. Thinking of replacing them next summer, once the tread is lower, with Hankook Ventus V12 Tires, Front: 225/40-18 | Rear: 255/35-18. I need to look into there wet performance, as I need a good wet tire.

Making a assumption here on supplier as I am not sure where they were bought from; but the same rear wheels from **********s have a 74.1 centerbore. I need a 72.6 centerbore. This makes me thing I need hub rings on the rear wheels.

Took the rear wheel off this evening, wasn't able to measure the hub bore, but did place it against the car hub and got some play.

Going to take it to a tire shop this weekend, and ask them to check/supply some hub rings. :crossfingers

Yeah, who are they??

Here is a good read why brand name tires matter:

Pretty sure Lexani is the same as Nexen. Nexen tire is from South Korea.

Turns out my assumption on the rear wheel center bore was right, needed a hub ring on the rear wheels only.

If you are in the Greater Vancouver Area, I highly suggest National Tire Wholesale for your balancing etc. They do a great job at customer services. I originally took my tires here to be roadforce balanced ($80 CDN total), which is where I found the bent wheel issue. After the wheel was repaired, they re-checked the balancing for free. Today, when I took the car back for the vibration, they again re-checked the roadforce balancing on all wheel and end up only charging me $8 for the two new hub rings (no labour charge at all.).

I have found there price on tires to be pretty good also, but they just cant compete with US (ie tirerack) prices.

Great to hear you solved the issue. Hub rings make a night and day difference...
