Powdercoat Rims..IMPORTANT!

I was thinking of powdercoating my rims instead of just buying new ones because I love my msport rims on my 2011 3 series sedan. Is there anyway I could turn them back to alloy at the end of the lease..or is there anyway I could give it back to BMW without getting any headaches? Keep in mind I have safe lease.

You can powder coat (approx $100 per rim) them or have them epoxy painted (approx $40 per rim) black for now then when your lease is up have them done again in OEM silver. I would powder coat in the long run it will not flake or peel with mounting tires on and off.

So there is a way to send it back to OEM silver? I want it to look the same exact way it looks right now.

it might damage the finish under the powdercoat, so they will ding you for jacked up finish. I have seen cars turned in with powder coated wheels though

The proper way of powder coating will be stripping the old finish and re-coating them with the new. That means you will lose the OE finish.

Stripping the new black finish will result in a raw aluminum finish in which will require a new powder coat in silver again.

+1 Powder coat them black, and when your ready to return your lease have them powder coated silver.

You will not be able to powder coat them and return them the EXACT same color. As VMR stated, the OEM finish will need to be stripped (if done properly) and the only thing to do would be to strip the new powdercoat and repowdercoat in a finish similar to the OEM silver.

If there is a will there is a way. However, take into consideration that you're not only going to have to pay for the initial cost of having to powder coat the wheels matte black, but your also going to have to pay for the powder coating service at a later date. Not to mention the amount of time and cost that it's going to take as you will have to demount the tires from the wheel before you can powder coat them leaving your car virtually without wheels for a few days. I was thinking of painting my 225m wheels black.
By the time you add it all up it's not much less than a new set, especially if you are in the USA
