Summer's here..time for serious water bottle holder for E90!

Went out for a road trip last weekend, and it was hot...needed hydration...BMW "cupholders" in dash a joke...so took matters into my own hands...Searched on line..found "ultimate cupholder for BMW"...neat lookin but no model available as yet for E90....so...Saw these water bottle holders..on sale for $4.50 @ Target...went to tap plastics...got some scrap 1/8" thick black/grey plastic sheet for $1...throw in a couple of 3/16" aluminum PopRivets...Ta Dah..cupholders! Plastic needs to be 10" long to fit tight between upper trim stop (under the trim) and the floor. I picked 3" width as having enuff surface to give good friction grip, but not so wide as to be a problem fitting into the trim piece...15 min fab time!...for a pair!

I used Schwinn cupholders 'cuz my first "ride" was a
Schwinn Spitfire...

The bottle holder on my bike keeps me happy on long rides, and you are right, it will work in any car, but I found that the in-dash cup holder in my BMW works quite well.

As long as you use tiny cups....and aren't worried about liquids being above that verrrrrrrry expensive I drive controler! A plus..havin your water bottles down low keeps the sun off em and water cooler a bit longer!

I have had water bottles on several occasions flip out of the cupholder when I'm taking a turn somewhat fast, but by no means excessive. They just aren't deep enough. I would never, ever put an open container or something with a flimsy lid in it. Not only that, but the cupholders are one of the main sources of rattles in my car. A poor design all around.

I think he killed his dog and used it as a seat cover!

He lives in Houston, it is hot as hell there and he doesn't want to stick to his seat or get burned on it.

Edit: Oh wait, he lives in California, I don't know why he did that!

Sheepskin covers...even in CA if you leave sunroof open with black leather seats...you're in for serious butt burn! Plus I get terminal back sweat on long summer drives...So...We've used em for years ever since we had a vert in GA...not only for the "coolness in summer/warmth in winter" you see in ads..but to protect the seats...B4 I found this car with such low miles 3500..and price $33K...I was lookin at used BMW's...say 2007's with 25-30K miles...and the seat bolsters were already showin wear 'n tear....I sold my 10 year old 535I with 130K miles and the front seats looked almost new...I'm into doing what feels right..not what "looks good"...a privilege of age!..LOL

That's why I have leatherette seats. On my last BMW e46, even after 10 years they still look new! To each their own. At least you can take a joke.

If he is trying only to protect it then, in my opinion, he is wrong for doing that. Think about it, he would have spent years on sheepskin without ever touching the seat. Its like when I purchased my house, people left old furniture behind with the plastic still on it. They never got to touch the couch and they were sitting on plastic all those years. I wound up throwing the couches away, they were outdated. Moral of the story, enjoy it, use it, save it for YOURSELF, don't save it for the other guy.

What's wrong with telling your wife "Hold my water"?

I'd prefer cloth seats, but they're not available on BMWs, even as a special order in the US anymore. (Except I know the base M3 has cloth centers.)

My wife was just telling me how much she hates the "hard" BMW seats, so anything to keep peace in the family.

I haven't farted in my car in the two years I've had it. I can't wait to put "Never been farted in" in the classified ad when I sell it.

I wish that BMW provided the option of ordering cloth seats. I had beautiful cloth seats on my '97 Saab. They looked great, wore extremely well, were cool in the summer and cozy in the winter and were nice and grippy in the corners. I definitely would prefer them to either leather or leatherette.

That's something that could be marketed and sold. Great idea.

I actually find the factory cup holders totally adequate. If you are looking for a holder for a 20 ounce water bottle they work very well.
