anyone swapped out runflat to NON runflat? please help me decide.
Hi,
i'm just wondering if I should go NON runflat on bmw sports package wheels. I think it's almost time to change my tires since the recommended life span of runflats is around 20k miles? another factor is that these runflats are so expensive and hard to find a shop that could repair/change these. 1)For people who have switched to NON runflat on 17 or 18 inches wheels. How does the ride feel? how long have you been driving on NON runflat? is there any problem on a long term? 2)does it worry you about getting a flat cause you have have a spare tire? would you take your chances? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks alot. |

You'll most likely notice an instant improvement on ride quality because the sidewalls of non-tft's are softer.
There are plenty of members on here who run on non-rft's without spares. In fact, the E46 M3 comes with no spare. What you can do is purchase a space saver spare for a couple hundred dollars and put it in your tunk. For me personally, I drove 12k miles w/o a spare and had 3 instances where the TPMS warning went off. I was able to pull off the road, inflate the tires, and drive it back to the shop to get it pached without shredding the tires. But its good to have AAA if you have no spare -Peter@VMRWheels

+1 You'll like the non rft's much better Currently I only use the non rft's in the winter. Didn't bother renewing my subscription with AAA as 1st & only time I needed assistance from them it took 1-1/2 hrs for them to get to me and I was in town surrounded by garages So in my usual method of overkill, when using the non rtf's; I carry a full size spare (matches my factory wheels), Jacking Kit, & Mobility Kit - that way I have all the bases covered no matter what type of tire damage may occur. Summer factory rft's only have 5k miles on them - will be replacing with non rft's when they r worn, but will prolly run without the full size spare in the trunk during summer and rely solely on Mobility Kit or BMW Assistance
