How much should I pay for wheel installation

About to get the 19" 313's for my 09 328 coupe... Should I install at BMW so I can make sure that the tire pressure monitor will work or do you guys see no issue with taking it to any wheel / tire shop?

How much would BMW charge? How much should I pay?

Thanks

Well, if nothing needs to be coded and does not involve engine/tranny work, it's best to just take it to a reputable specialty shop. Go to Discount Tires or something. They call them Stealerships for a reason.

Any wheel/tire place can handle TPMS. If you pay more than $20 per wheel then you are getting hosed...

Make sure its a good shop that has done expensive wheels before and not just some random tire shop down the street that works on 14" steel Corolla wheels all day. Last thing you want is for the shop to scratch up your shiny new wheels when mounting tires.

+1 I would even take a look at their tire machine and make sure it doesn't look like this http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...t=tire+machine

To dismount tires, mount new tires and then balance ? $60 bucks ?

Indy shop here charges $20 per wheel just to balance on roadforce.

Ps. I had bad experience with roadforce/indy shop, and therefore don't use it anymore

Went to balance my wheels on m3 2 times on roadforce without luck, then went to dealer and told them that there must be some problem with the car, they asked me where balanced and laughted at me.....
Since manager was my friend they rebalanced for free and everything was fine

Yep... I would suspect your local independent shop doesn't know how to use the roadforce balancer properly. Never had any issues with mine on the car or my F150 running 35's.

Matter of fact the local BMW/Mercedes dealer has a roadforce machine as well, but like everything else in the world it only works as well as the people are trained

Dealer here charges $50 a wheel, almost no one else will touch the runflats around my area, without the proper tire machine for run flats, they will most likely damage the rim!

First place I tried was the place that actually repairs all BMW dealers damaged wheels, even they where afraid to try doing the tires as they did not have the right machine (but had ordered one!). A good indy shop should have the right machine as they should be used to doing runflats, but I would stay away from the chain tire shops as some kid will destroy your wheel learning about runflats the hard way!

I've done this at my dealer for $30/wheel with balancing. I was quoted the same at an indy shop so I just decided if any issues arose the dealer would be more professional since I know them better.
I would recommend asking around for a good shop and then make your choice, any of them is fine.

As others have stated $20/corner is about the average price. However make sure the place has the proper equipment. Many Tire Kingdoms and the like are not setup to handle 19" runflats and they will mess up your wheels (top of the line machines can cost $20k and they don't see enough 19" wheels to make it worthwhile). I would just ask the shop before hand if they can handle the tires. Other than that any decent shop will do you don't have to go to the dealer.

Mounting of wheel/tires should not cost an arm and a leg. Iv seen most shops charge about $80-120 to mount and balance 18-19" wheels + another $30-40 to physically mount it onto the car.

I would recommend checking Tirerack.com's authorized shops for your wheel/tire work.

Good advise, see photo 3 and 4 here .....

Photo 3 and 4 show what inexperienced tire shop people do to your wheel

and believe it or not this tire shop is being used by a BMW dealership in a small Idaho town, since the BMW dealership only is capable of checking your air pressure and cannot change your tire to a new wheel they ordered for me since they don't have the manpower or the equipment to do so, go figure.

Good call on going with TPMS from the start - I cheaped out and went with tires/wheels only and now I'm going to have to pay dismount/mount for a second time to get the TPMS in.. the dash light is annoying
