Now, if you're talking about an Xede-equipped 335i, then there should be no reason that the Bimmer wouldn't walk all over the Cayman S (in a straight line of course); it would be funny to see the look on the Porsche Cayman S driver's face in this scenario...he'd be like "huh...what just happened?"

My bets will be on 335i of course. It's amazing what bimmer delivers with such an overall package. Cayman S or Cayman (standard) have pathetic fuel economy. C&D measure it to be slightly above 10mpg which truly sucks!!

It's an outright shame Porsche AG purposely crippled the Cayman. That's why I'm getting a 335i instead of a Cayman. We should all boycott Porsche until
Porsche AG makes a Cayman that won't get beat off the line by a Subaru or Mitsubishi. |

The magazines are getting a variety of numbers, but you might use them from the same magazine for comparison:
http://www.autobild.de/test/neuwagen...tikel_id=12721 http://www.autobild.de/test/neuwagen...rtikel_seite=2 The 335i is an automatic, so the manual might be slightly quicker with a good driver, but probably slower with the average driver. Up to 60 MPH the 335i would be ahead, and would hold that up to about 100 MPH, as s4iscool suggests. The Cayman S would be reeling the 335i in above 100 MPH, and by the 1/4 mile mark the two are even. In short, the 335i would most likely have the advantage in the USA, and would be a match on a dragstrip, but might not be up to it on an autobahn. The turbos in the 335i ought to also do nicely at higher elevations. Oh yeah, challenge the Cayman S driver to a race with you and 2 or 3 friends in the car and you'll win every time. I'm no P-car hater, and have owned several of them. I'm waiting for the Cayman/S to depreciate (like all non-911 P-cars do) and will pick one up for a track/race car in a few years. |

When I was on my ED I ran against a Boxster S on an autobahn and the 335 was ever so slightly faster in runs from about 80-100 up to 200-240.

Great. A slow "sports car" that's only good on low-speed winding backroads that I never drive and no good on straight freeways and roads where I do drive. Yeah, that's what I want to buy. Right.

Think it doesn't matter, all is depending on the guy/lad behind the wheel.

I believe the 335 is faster in the 1/4 mile. I have a friend down here with a caymen S. That ran a 350z with just cia and exhaust and it was pretty damn even.
When I ran the 350z it wasnt even close. Still have yet to run my friend but we will see at the track, on the 13th.

Very evenly matched cars. Cayman S more exciting to drive, 335 more comfortable.

On a straight line I would say either could pull ahead, on the track the Cayman would demolish my 335i. Whats nice about the 335i is that it doesn't cost an additional $20k to get an extra 70-80hp out of it. Look up the details of the X51 engine conversion or the supercharger for the Cayman.
