My 335i Coupe is in the SHOP after 400 Miles and 4 days of ownership. ERRRRRRR
OMG, my check engine light went on and brought in the shop. The car had been idling kind of rough in the morning and one day when I left a customer appointment, the check engine light went on in the evening. That was the last straw so I drove it to the dealer and had them plug in the computer. The code they pulled was like a 29CE misfire in the number 2 cylinder. One of the techs said there was a service bulletin and scheduled an appt with the shop on Thursday 12/22. Friday 12/23 they called me and told me they don't think its the fuel pump but something wrong with the fuel injector. Since its the Holiday, they won't get a part either til Tues or Wednesday which means I've been tooling around in an X3 3.0. The X3 is not bad and I'm going snowboarding this week. But I'm frustrated that the dealer never picked up this issue before they sold me the car. Has anyone ever contacted BMW North America about filing a complaint? Is it even worth it?

That's a bummer, I'd be pissed too but if it makes you feel any better be glad it happened before the holidays rather than during. I am sure you'll get your car back next week and all will be forgotten. Merry Christmas!

How would they have caught the issue if the light just came on after 400 miles of driving?
No need to be frustrated with the dealer. Rather, I can understand your frustration with the car. |

sorry to hear that. I had similar issues and they replaced the fuel pressure pump and all is well. Of course, it took 3 trips and about 7 days without the car. To add insult to injury, they decided to detail the car and left tons of swirl marks.

we'll see what happens when I get it back. I still love the car but it would be nice to have had it during xmas. Hopefully I can still take it to the CES show in Vegas on the 7th oh also the AVN show hahaha

I don't know how the dealer could predict this issue or detect during delivery prep. I understand a bit of frustration and I don't think it's crazy to communicate that to BMWNA. But in my history with dealing with them (limited) I find it's better if you have an idea of what you are hoping they'll do for you. And I don't see what you'd like beyond a loaner and your car repaired, save maybe an apology. I hope your ownership is smooth past this and I think it sounds like BMW is repairing your car and doing their best to do what they can. Hang in there and my advice is to save it in regards to BMWNA - if you do contact them keep it polite and professional because down the road if you need help from them you may be contacting the same people there.
Best of luck. |

The joys (and sorrows) of being the first on the block... I have been there...
I took delivery of my e90 on 05/08/2005 and my car has been in the shop for: - The wiper washer jets stopped working (3 days in shop) - The moonroof would not close (4 days in shop) - Check engine light stays on (7 days because of failed thermostat) - Car would not start because some water splashed in my trunk during the transportation of a drink and ice filled cooler to a soccer match. I did not realize some of the water touched the battery in the trunk until the shop told me they could not duplicate the problem on its second occassion I suffered the same fate. After the second occassion, I realized this was my fault all along and I stopped filling the coolers with water and ice until I got to the pitch. Anyway, long story short, I know exactly what you are going through... You have my sincere sympathy. However, I would not trade my car in for anything, except another BMW! :rocks: PS: BTW, I just ordered a replacement rim/wheel from Tire Rack because I bent my front left rim in two places.

I had a similar issue with my 01' M-roadster.... less than 1K on the odometer and a starter coil failed. It was the 1st run of the amazing S54 engines, and was just a single part defect. A year or so later there was a SB on the starter coils, so BMW was eventually on top of it. On the up side, never another problem with the powerplant for the next 5 years. Early adopter's ususlly end up doing a little beta-testing

Thanks for all the replies! The engine is still misfiring in the number 2 cylinder and at first they thought it was the fuel pump, nope not that, then they changed the fuel injector today and still have problems. Their chatting with BMW tech on the east coast but still no solutions. The service adviser said they may be able to cover the first month's lease payment which would make be happy but when does the lemon law kick in in California. I know its 3 times but what about a car that's only 450 miles old and still in the shop for 1/3 the car's life?

Here is your SIB on that issue:
SI B 12 55 06 Engine Electrical Systems December 2006 Technical Service SUBJECT E90, E92 with N54 - Diagnosis for DME FC 29DC/2FBF MODEL E90, E92 with N54 produced 06/06 up to 09/06 SITUATION I Customer may complain of the following: "Vehicle looses power while driving"; or "Vehicle runs poorly"; Service Engine Soon light may be illuminated; GT1/DIS diagnosis shows fault code 29DC (Cylinder injection cut-out, pressure too low in high pressure system), 2FBF (Fuel pressure on-release injection, pressure too low), also in conjunction with 29F1 (Fuel high pressure, plausibility) and 29F2 (Fuel high pressure, fuel pressure undershot). In some cases, also misfire faults for various cylinders (e.g. FC 20D1, 29CF, 29D2, 29CE, 29D0, 29CC) are stored in MSD80. Important: If only fault codes 29F1/29F2 are stored in DME, refer to SI B12 16 06 (November 2006). SITUATION II Customer may complain of: Excessive cranking time before engine starts (5-6 seconds) on cold start, or after hot soak, In most cases GT1/DIS diagnosis shows fault code 29DC, and/or 2FBF. CAUSE Possible failure of the high pressure fuel pump (HPP). CORRECTION On a customer complaint basis only: Perform all applicable DIS/GT1 test plans, mainly B1214_ DI6KHDR/NDR (high pressure fuel system, rail pressure sensor, volume control valve test), and B1612_ STR/SPG/VER (low pressure fuel system check). Test modules may be accessed using the path: Function selection; Drive; Motor Electronics; then High-pressure/Low-pressure fuel system; Test plan. Make sure that a FASTA data is transmitted after completion of all appropriate test modules. Replace the high pressure fuel pump, when prompted by the results of DIS/GT1 test plans. For the pump replacement procedure refer to RA 13 51 017 found in BMW TIS. After replacement, clear adaptation values of the high pressure flow control valve in the DME. Refer to SI B12 16 06 for adaptation reset procedure. NOTE: Currently, the high pressure fuel pumps (HHP) are in extremely short supply. Until the further notice, follow the procedure below when ordering a replacement part: Submit a PuMA case to the Technical Hotline/Drivetrain with title indicating "N54 HPP failure". Based on the results of executed test modules, Technical Hotline specialist will provide you with an authorization to replace a high pressure fuel pump. Then, your Parts Department needs to place an order for PN 13 53 7 537 320, using the PuMA case number as your purchase order number. IMPORTANT: PUMA CASES WITHOUT A FASTA DATA, OR CASES WHERE THE APPROPRIATE TEST MODULES WERE NOT PERFORMED, ARE NOT GOING TO BE PROCESSED. PARTS ORDERS WITHOUT A PUMA CASE WILL BE CANCELLED. update 12-29
good day everyone. day 8 of my saga. Thank Cobradac for the s/b.. The dealer called me yesterday and said we'll its not the injectors and bmw tech engineers in the East Coast has advised to order a new computer for the car. Not sure if its a dell or hp but there's not one in the good old USA. So they need about a week to get one from Germany and thus the dealership will have my car 2 weeks of the 3 weeks I've owned this. I understand this is a new engine, new model for '07 but wouldn't this stuff come up during their million mile drive around the world. Did a rat at the factory only naw on my circuit board and not the rest? Oh well i guess I will still keep putting hundreds and hundreds of miles on x3 the gave me. happy new year to me and all the other 335i owners!
moreover bmw still hasn't approved covering my first month's lease payment

1-3-2007 Day 13 of my saga . Still no update from the dealer when they will get the new computer from Germany. I already put 2k miles on my loaner x3 but would of been nicer if I tooled around in my 335i. They haven't confirmed if there covering my 2nd months lease payment so I need to hit them up for that today. I will probably start making calls to BMW North America to identify who is the district representative. More to follow

Sorry to hear about your problems. Hopefully, they finish it in the next 2 weeks before you file a lemon.

Thanks Trekster about reminding me about the CA lemon law provision which states "The vehicle is out of service because of the repair of any number of problems by the manufacturer or its agents for a cumulative total of more than 30 days since delivery of the vehicle". But I do love this car but sometimes you got to cut bait with those you fell out of love with.
