newbie test drive. (not another comparison)

Guys, i test drove both 2007 G35 and 335i today, All AT, at Pleasanton, CA. and Just wanted to share my feelings. Hope ya'll can understand my emotions now.

This will be my first new car in about 5 years. never owned BMW before, always a honda/toyota guy, (because they are cheap)

I drove the 335i first, The sales guy named Cameron, young and eager, drove the crap out of the car, my friend and my mom were sitting at the back, he drove out of the lot. Right off the light, the car accelerated with amazing speed!!!!and with 4 adults!! Holy Crap!!! it was like a jet!!!! I was pinched way back into the seat and was holding onto everything I could. The noise was loud, i would die to hear the noise again and again and again. I could not stop smiling !!! amazing machine.

The brakes on it were incredible, i thought we were gonna hit the guard rails, the sales guy stomped on the brakes, with no hands on the steering wheel, and we stopped like in a millisec. i felt like i was gonna go thru the windshield. wow!!! I actually sweated a little.

my mom got scared, that was funny, she told me her heart was about to jump out from her throat.

Then to the fun part, we were on the freeway. at first i was dissappointed because there was a jam, but as soon as that car in front of us merged in traffic, the car was off. Again, VROOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!pinched into the seat. I never never never experienced that before in a car.

He stopped in an empty road, and changed position with me. I am now in the driver seat. The paddle shifters on it were new to me. The left and right paddle shifters can both shift down and up. Press them to you, up, press them with the thumb, away from you, down. I was getting the hang of it. He told me to merge into freeway, so i did. If you slap it to the left, it goes into D/S mode, and you can use the paddle shifters, and if you leave it in D, you can still use them. Getting on the freeway, Man, that was a good feeling... I outran everyone on that freeway. hahahahhahaha, soooooo nice feeling. I used to roll in a crappy honda, this BMW has no problem pass the stupid truck, (a bit of understatement), the engine noise, so wonderful. I can only get that kind of noise on xbox. haha.

Next, right across the street from BMW, there were lexus, acura, volvo and infiniti. I went straight to infiniti to see the new G35. They had no car on the lot with nav, and only 1 sport in the showroom, so i test drove the G35 journey. Same procedure, sales guy drove off the lot, stopped in a parking lot, and exchange position. Learned from BMW, i slapped the stick to the left and was off. One nice feature on these Semi-automatic is that if you slow down and stop, it will automatically shift down for you, and when you drive off, you can shift as you would normally do, 1, then 2, then 3... stop, 1, then 2, then 3.

On both cars, i revved the engine to redline, and neither guy complained. Great engine on both, fantastic noise them make.

For extra $6000 before TTL, G35 was about $39K with nav, 335i was about $45K~$46K, i would no doubt get the 335i. It if were up to me, i would have driven home the 335i already.

I so so so so so envy you 335i owners. next year, when i save enough money. Actually the BMW sales guy was very cool and funny, he is a great guy, when i said next year, he was like "in one week you would have the money" hahhaahah. and the RFT tires on them BMW are nice, also i don't particular care about RFT, but they look better than regular ones.

I cannot stop praising the 335i. God....

They're red-lined in the factory, you won't break anything.

Good stuff, BMW's are nice cars! Glad I drive manual along with BMW's order-the-car theme, my car was not off the lot!

the 07 g35 has the best automatic transmission ive ever driven, the wheels will chirp!! when a first to 2nd shift is done...also, the rev-matching feature is unbeileivable...and also, it WILL NOT shift at redline and will bounce off the limiter until you shift....how awesome is that? if that was in a BMW transmission i would definatly buy it, the only downside is that the shift is not as fast as BMWs...
BUT the 335>ANY G35...

I have not driven the auto box in the new G, but I do think the auto in the e90 is the best I have driven so far...

yea i saw that i was like "holly hell thats fast" seems like the only reason autos are slower now is only because of the power loss, not becuase they shift slower

on G, there is a half a sec delay or slow between i shift and the engine shifts. I can get used to that.

on a sidenote, the bmw guy pushed the car to like 8K rpm without warming it up, i am sure there is no hurting the car by doing this, but if it were me, i would not do it. Also, BMW shifts are instanenous. (spellcheck???)

335i oil temp gauge, it points to 120F before start, then pretty soon during the test drive, it jumped to 210F. has anybody pushed it to 300F??

I havent gotten around to driving the new G.

Question for you guys who have driven it... is this the same engine from last years G, and did anyone notice if the engine/exhaust note is the same or have they tuned it to sound even nicer?

A friend of mine drives a 05 G35 coupe. It also has the semi-automatic tranny. She claims she never put it to use. what a shame.....
back to your question, i have been in it for many times, the exhaust note is very similar to the 07 G, almost a deep howl, but 335i note is better. So every time she pulls out from my garage, oh man, wonderful noise. I wanted it rev a couple of times, but she refused.

As for the engine parts, Infiniti claims 80% or somehting is new, (built with different materials, i assume, from the last engine revision)

I think the 2007 coupe has come out, exact same body, but different engine. At the pleasanton dealership i went to, there were no 07 coupe on the lot. From the infiniti site, look carefully, the exhaust look the same.
