This is my OEM wheel gap with 255 tire...should I use 265 or 275 as replacement ?
Hi,
I keep reading that sticking a 275 tire on a 9.5 rim in the rear on an e90 is possible. I currently have a 17x8.5ET37 rim in the back, and a 255/40/17 tire. Today I climbed with one rear wheel on some raised pavement forcing the shock to compress almost at full travel. Then I took some pictures of the wheel gap. While beforehand I was confident that I could put a 275/35/18 tire on a 9.5in rim in the back (18x9.5ET45), now I am not so confident even with the ET45 offset (keep in mind that I have a LCI which has a wider track). The new rim will extend 5mm outside compared to the OEM, according to the calculator. Combined with a 275 tire, I really don't think there is enough room to fit. I am beginning to think that a 265 is safer...as you can see, on the inside the rear fender is very thick, it has a plastic liner which I do not want to mess with... What do you think ?
