My VMR VB3s are ruined

Back in March I bought the VMR VB3s from Jurrian in textured black. They were such sweet wheels. So how did they get ruined? Simply put, P21S WHEEL CLEANER I'm sure you guys are shocked as I am. All the pictures are below.

First off, I did the dumbest thing of not testing it on the back of the wheel. I went ahead and sprayed it on all four, but at the same time everyone recommends this cleaner, I cleaned my brother's VW allow wheels, and the box itself says,

"And like our regular strength formula P21S Gel is totally safe for any type of wheel coating. Its non-acid, pH controlled formula is surface safe for any type of wheel coating or finish, Including new powder clear coats, bare aluminum..."

Please do not flame me on that because I'm already heart broken

So here's the details. The car was parked in the garage all day so the wheels were cool. My car needs a complete detail so I figured I would start by giving it a wash. I spray all 4 wheels with the wheel cleaner and left it on for about 15 minutes (it says to leave on for up to 2 hours for heavily soiled wheels) before I started scrubbing. The car was in the garage until I was ready to scrub. So I start scrubbing one wheel and noticed a color offset so I quickly spray off all 4 wheels, but it was too late. I washed them all off immediately and once they dried all the wheels had the powder coat stripped off. You can imagine how I felt after I saw that since I spent a bundle on those rims and have only had them since March 2010.

I emailed detailed image and they said that I needed to contact the guys that make the P21S wheel cleaner. So I have an email out to them. I really hope it is hassle free and someone reimburses me the cost to repair the wheels.

So I have found two places that are within an hour drive from Syracuse, NY that powder coat wheels. I don't know whether they are any good or not, but if anyone has heard of them please chime in. I don't know much about the process for powder coating so If anyone can check these websites out and let me know what you think:

http://www.powderworth.com/
http://www.customultracoat.com/

I also have a message to Jurrian to see how much he thinks it will run me to ship them out to California and get them coated since they were absolutely amazingly beautiful when I got them.

Now I am going to go cry myself to sleep

Sorry to see that man.
I know VMR only recommends to clean their wheels with mild car shampoo. I cleaned my V710 with Mother's Wheel Cleaner and also some other brands but thank god they didn't ruin my wheel finishes. P21S is a reputable product, surprise to see that man.

WOW!

Im really shocked that P21 gel took that finish off.

Its not even that strong of a wheel cleaner, maybe they forgot to dilute that batch.

I would buy another bottle from a different source, and do a chemical analysis of both.

Either way P21s or VMR owes you a new set of wheels

That really sucks. I thought powder coating would hold up better than that.

been using P21s on all kinds of wheels for over 12 years and it never did anything like that, on painted, cleared, and powdercoated wheels. i think the wheel finish was defective or was not put on properly.

ALSO.......

i hate to say it, but you might be better off just covering the entire wheel and getting all the finish off just to make it look more uniform. after you send the pics of course.

I'll bet he's sol trying to get VMR to give him new wheels if they recommend using only mild car soap...OP, I feel your pain, I would def send pics to both companies to at least try to get a new set or get them to pay for powdercoating!

I think that it's not VMR's fault or P21S's (wheel cleaner) fault. Its the power coating process, which as far as I know is not usually done by VMR.

I am really sorry for your loss, but I think it's easily fixable in a number of ways, like painting or re-powdercoating (I would use painting this time )
