09 335i HPFP

Im an active duty army guy and i deploy alot so i only put 3000 miles on my 09 335i. yeap u heard it right 3000 miles. Anywyz recently ive been having long cranks when engine's cool. I figure maybe its a HPFP so i called BMW and they said its normal, plus 2009 has revised HPFP. Is that true? What should i do? I've been hearing lots of bad stuff happened after HPFP's been replaced. I am not even sure if i should even cosider about getting replaced.

It is bull. All my friends and family, when I was having trouble with my N54 from Oct. to April said they cannot understand why I am taking my car in, and getting it back with nothing done. I told them no SES or 1/2 engine faults, etc., and they said who gives a rat's a** or f***, the car is stalling, they have to fix it. Only people in the forum know that to have your car unable to start or stall, and get it back from the dealership with nothing done is totally normal with BMW.

They are in business to sell new cars, and repair old ones out of warranty. Not to fix cars that are covered under warranty. At least that's the message I get.

The most hilarious thing was when BMW contacted me through the forum saying to let them know how they can help...what, there is a difference through the forum v. 800 tel#? Or was it hush money.....

Wait until you're like me with a constant SES light and half engine light (limp mode), and they can't get you in for a week and a half.

Long cranks on cold start are not normal. I have an 09 and got long cranks for about 2 months and then finally, got half engine light. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the pump with the latest hpfp (933) and updated the software. I had 8300 miles on my car before the original pump failed.

I have read mixed posts regarding new software update. Some have reported issues with decreased performance, shifting, mpg's while other's like myself have been very happy with the software update... no performance loss, same
shifting, and same mpg's.

...
+1, why to make car computer stack error codes when the dealer is allowed just to erase the error codes and return the car without at least attempting to rectify the problems? Even when they try, it usually takes at least three visits to get anything fixed.

Apparently the Army doesn't teach grammar and spelling.

That is 100% bullshit. The new pumps suck just as bad as the old pumps. Your dealer is re-tarded.

VERY IMPORTANT

Guys please report the HFPF issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association..Here is the link.

https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/Complaint.cfm

The more complaints they receive the more likely that they could force BMW to issue a recall and fix this problem once and for all.

There is also an online petition to get our voices heard about the HPFP problems with our cars..PLEASE spread this around..get as many people to sign as possible.. I just did

http://www.petitiononline.com/fixpump/petition.html

Also this problem is finally starting to get some media attention so we need to make a stink to the rest of the world and not just here on the forums. Check this article out...

First get the software updated. It makes a difference. Also, the techs at my dealership have said the durring the service roundtable discussions, BMW is saying that up to 3 seconds is normal. so unless you have cranks longer than that, they will not do anything.

From your description it sounds like the car sits for long periods of time. Are you using a fuel stabilizer when you park it?

335 HPFPs are notoriously touchy to bad gas and contaminants (I consider ethanol a contaminant.) If you are not using stabilizer, it's possible that the crap in the old gas is compromising the FP.

Either way, BMW will probably wait until you are actually getting limps before changing anything.

My 09 E92 had the same problems, got the slow start, and the software fix. Now, I get the engine service, half power light. You can "feel" the fuel pump going out.
I'm TDY right now, but get back on Friday, enjoying Florida right now, I'll take it in next week. This'll be my third visit, second fuel pump.
