Test drove the new E90 came home with a 545i !

After waiting patiently for my local dealer to call with the news that the first E90's had arrived, I flew over to test drive a ti silver, sport package car with 6 speed manual. Absolutely fantastic car. Worlds ahead of the previous benchmarh E46. Wonderful seats, driving position, power etc.... Vastly improved interior.
The only thing I wasn't sure I liked was the extremely featherlight clutch uptake, but I'm sure I would get use to that and I'd prefer light to overly heavy. Especially in traffic.

The only reason I didn't buy it on the spot was that I already have a 2005 Boxster S and I really needed someting that would double as the occasional kid hauler. The rear leg room is just too small for kids to sit comfortably in car seats without having their feet all over the seat back and thus in my spine!
So.....I test drove a fully loaded 545i Sport pack and flipped out.
The E90 is more tossable and more fun overall to drive and a beautifully executed car, but for my current needs the E60 with big, fat, honkin' V8 was the way to go.

Good choice! As much as I love the E90. I love the E60 just as much. Excellent colour you got there too. I love the front end of the E60. Looks well cool.

Well, it suits your needs, so good on ya.

How funny. I just got back from test driving the new E90 (fully loaded minus Nav). I've been very accustomed to driving MBs for the last few years so this was AWESOME. The E90 is fantastic! I would say that some of the other cars I looked at might have the slight edge in ergonomics but for drivability, there is nothing in its class that I think even comes close. I was just going down for a quick look and ended up spending over an hour test driving different models and thumbing through the options, etc.

The only thing that kept me from driving home in it was the simple fact that at the end of my visit the dealer rep asked if I was at all interested in a 2005 model. They said that they can get just about any model with any options and are trying to offload them for invoice or less before all the new '06s arrive in June. I said I would have to do some research and get back to them tomorrow.

So what is the invoice of a fully loaded E46?

Damn..that thing is SWEET! Now Im not the only "traitor" in here! I went to "schedule" my test drive for the E90, and came back with an X5...And the leg room was the biggest issue for me..I only got to "sit" in the E90, but man, that thing is beautiful..Everything is perfectly positioned, controls, etc..But I guess I have to think realistically about the family actually riding with me this time around...

I also said I would never NOT get a black car...Well I pick up my first TiAg next week...

You can find invoice pricing and what people are paying for E46's according to Edmunds at www.edmunds.com.

If you want an E46 they are a steal right now. That said, make sure you're not gonna feel dated in it.

My dealer was begging people to consider E46's when I was there last week...They had 3 2005 (2 325's and 1 330) all with premium pkgs...The 325's were going for 25,000 bucks out the door...They actually took down their posters and brochures for the E90 so people wouldnt be deterred...Not that Im complaining, but they probably should have waited to promote the E90..I might just get an E46 for the hell of it if I can get them below 22....

We almost drove home in a 325 E46 a couple of months ago (my wife was sold), but I decided to hold out for a few more months. Glad I did...

In America almost everyone can affort a great engine! You are lucky.
May I ask how much taxes you have to pay annual for a 545i?

Zip -- nothing extra for 545 in comparison with a 525. The only 'progressive' engine taxes in the USA are on the few really egregious gas guzzlers (like a Lamborghini -- pickup trucks and SUVs are exempt, I think), and a tax break on hybrids (like the Toyota Prius). Think about it: would GM, Ford, & Chrysler (oops, I mean Daimler) allow our government to tax V8s? They are practically considered a birth right. Come on over to the good life! Now, if only we had the highways to enjoy the 545 at full bore... At least we can come over to euro and drive for a couple weeks on an ED!
