End of Lease and Tints
Hey guys I need some help with this.
I have tints and my lease is about to end. So i figured that i'd take the tints off, and then make the appt for the company to come and take a look at the car. This is because in the end of lease documents that i got, it stated that the cars with tints will go through extra scrutiny. So to avoid all that i was going to take my tints off, until one of my friends told me that if i take the rear windshield tints off then the defroster wires will come off with it, since the wires are printed on the window. So now i don't know what to do. Has anyone taken their rear tints off and run into issues with the defroster wires on the window? Any help is appreciated.

I have never heard of teh defroster lines coming off. My friend just removed the tint on his e92 on the back window so he could replace it with a darker tint and the defroster lines didnt come off. I dont think it should be a problem

If the removal is done properly then they won't come off. A good tint shop can do it right.

if you use a steamer you will have no issues, or glue left overs.

My two cents, but my first 330 had 30% all around and was leased and it posed no problem at all when I turned it in. The guy actually complemented me on how good the car looked. I'd check again, because I don't think a tint job as long as it's properly done and isn't pealing or pulling off should poss any type of problem.

I left my tints on when I returned my 335i. They didn't even blink an eye at them. I got dinged for other stuff, but that would have happened if I had the tints on or not.

This is really funny. I traded my 335 07 to my dealer and bought a 2011 335 coupe. My 07 trade had 35% tint all around. It was in perfect condition, but tint is illegal in my state. I saw my 07 for sale on my dealers web site. I know it is my car based on tne VIN and the mileage. The car no longer has tint on any of the windows. They removed it before making it a CPO car.

Why don't you go get a pre-inspection before you return the car rather than risking the last possible minute to return it?

I have to return my car in September, because I'm getting my new car in July I will return the car in July.
I am getting a pre-inspection done now from the third party of BMW, which will be good for 30 days. Taking the cue from others who have posted here, it seems that i should just leave the tints on and see what they say at the pre-inspection and then go from there. I will have 30 days to fix the issues.

If you do decide to remove the tint, it's not a problem to do so. I had the tint removed from my E92 right after I got it because I just couldn't live with the bubbles around the dot matrix. No residue and all rear window heating elements intact.

hmm
Not to knock anyone here but why do so many people call window tint-tints? Why does window tint become plural when added to a car's windows?
Again I am not trying to be a prick, just trying to figure out why some people call it tints. PS: to the OP Window tint(s) can be removed very easily and you don't have to worry about your rear defroster at all if it is taken off by a good shop. You can do all of the other windows yourself with a steamer or razor blade (be careful not to scratch the windows if you use a razor) and just leave the back one to the shop (saves you tonnes of labor. It is really really easy to remove tint(s) on all of the other windows. |

I just returned my lexus with 5% all the way around and 50% on the windshield.. they didnt even look at the car when I turned it in, just handed me some paper to sign and they signed it and took me to the lot to look at new cars... I ended up going with bmw, but I made them think I was looking at a new one to speed the lease turn in process along and they signed me off within the first 5 mins I was there

depends on if its legal or not. in NYS, any tint darker than 70% is illegal, so they wont take the car back like that.
with a steamer, comes right off.

Regarding a leased vehicle, I wouldn't give the dealer back anything extra I didn't pay for when I first received the vehicle.
When I used to lease BMWs, I would change the tires a year before returning the vehicle so at least I got some of my money's worth. I would never tint the windows of a leased vehicle. Last edited by hpowders; 06-28-2010 at 10:06 PM.. |
