groan from rear brakes when exiting car
after stopping and parking, i open the door to get out and hear a groaning from the rear wheel (presumably the brake?) behind me as i shift my weight. i can continue to make it happen by kinda rocking myself back and forth in my seat.
normal? SA said it's common, likely the e-brake and completely ok, nothing needs to be looked at. thanks, dave |

Mine does it too.
I drive a 6mt by the way. You could test things out by (carefully!) getting out of the car on a level surface without the e-brake engaged. See if it still groans.

Like a squeaking noise? Most likely the parking brake, mine does it too.

I've heard the squeak before too, a brief and really high-pitched sound, also when getting out of the car, yes?
This is more of a distinct "groan", sounds similar to how the brakes often groan as they're being released (on an AT, that is). Marcus - I don't know that it's the brakes, that was just a guess. It may well be the suspension. In case it is, can you shed more light? |

I had that the first two days I had my car. I assumed it was the rust the brakes wiped off after the car sat on the dealer lot for ~6 months. It never reappeared again since

the car moves a little when you get out, its just the friction of the pads on the rotors when you have you'r e-brake one. completely normal

I have to ask. Is this the first BMW any of you have ever owned? Every BMW I've owned in the last 20 years have done this. It is absolutely par for the course. As you get out of the car and the suspension unloads the rear wheel moves ever so slightly causing the drum in the rear brake to move against the e-brake shoe. |
