Cracked My Windsheild Wtf!

So i was washing my car today and i put the windsheild wipers up to wash the window so when i was done i went to put the right wiper down and the wiper came right off the arm and then it smashed into the window cracking it halfway up the window. No pics for now but will have em up tomarrow. Does anyone know how much it might cost me to get this fixed?

Presuming you haven't changed blades yourself, I would be inclined - since this does not sound as if it's any fault of your own - to call the service dept. and tell them that the wiper blade came off and the arm cracked the windshield - and see what the SA says.

Clearly it should not have come off and there could be a manufacturing defect here.

I would love to blame it on them due to the fact that i never changed my blades and they changed them. I noticed the blade is missing a black peice that seems to hold the wiper blade down. I just know if i blame it on them that iall never hear the end off it and they will blame it on me for picking it up.

I just had my windshield replaced (it was actually an upgrade! Pilkington crap-glass original replaced with Saint-Gobain UV shielded glass...) for a grand total of about $730.

Fully covered by insurance. Not a dime out of pocket.

It's not as if you're not supposed to pick up the wiper. As long as you didn't force it, I can't see how it could be construed as being your fault.

Good to know. BMW windshield is very soft. My glass was replaced and there is already a chip on it. Next time definitely upgrading.

Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

DOH! Sorry to hear.
If you have full coverage on your insurance, it should not cost you anything to replace it.
Well, that's how it is here in Florida. Call your insurance company and find out.
If it is, they'll set up an appointment with a local auto glass shop and they can come to you to replace it or you can go their.

Man these threads make me worry, with a $500 deductible, it really doesnt' make sense to use insurance to replace a cracked windshield.

Many policies have zero deductible comprehensive coverage -- that's what covers the windshield. Different from your regular collision insurance. Check you policy!

Yep. I had my windshield replaced before on my 2003 350Z and I didn't have to pay a dime. It was with a different insurance Co (Nationwide) at that time, but even with my current insurance (Geico) the zero deductible windshield replacement is the same.
You just have to check with your insurance to confirm.
