Finally get my car, DAMAGE!!!! HELP!!!
What an exciting day that has turned into pure anger and rage. After months of searching and searching I finally find my 335i coupe with low miles perfect condition, in the package and color combo i wanted.
I had the car shipped with DAS from New Mexico to VA. I get a call this morning letting me know the car is ready for pick up. I asked the person on the phone how everything looks. First thing out of his mouth was, to be honest with you.... right there my breakfast almost came up. Anyways he said there is a big dent on your trunk, so big that you cant miss it and it looks like you would probably need to replace your trunk. I'm going over later today to pick the car up my car and note all the damage (take pictures). I want to get this repaired the best way possible. Any suggestions on BMW certified body shops in the local DC area? Any suggestions on how to handle this situation? Has anyone had any prior experience with DAS shipping. thanks in advance, [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG] Last edited by belal242; 06-18-2010 at 07:31 AM.. |

You can always just get a better looking trunk

I've used DAS several times now with no problems, but there are many horror stories out there. I believe they're the biggest moving company out there, so the odds of crap like this happening are bound to be higher.
Did you get insurance? Covered trailer? They're usually a few hundred more, but I never risk it. Good luck, really sorry that happened. |

Sorry to hear that - must be so heartbreaking. The good news is a trunk is probably a bit easier to fix/replace than another part of the car where they would have to repaint adjoining panels.
If you ask the same question in the Mid-Atlantic forum, you'll probably get a lot of people telling you to go to Wagonwork in Arlington/Alexandria (right off Route 1 near Target in the Potomac Yard shopping center). I, along with many others here, have had a great experience with them. They are certainly pricey - but you can trust that work is done correctly. Thanks for the info, I've heard good things about them in the past as well. I'll give them a try and get my estimate from them. DAS is paying for it, so price is not a concern. BMW of Arlington said to use First Choice, But I'm thinking Wagonworks. The Trunk truly isn't that bad, but knowing the car has had body work always sits in the back of my mind. |

I know when I shipped cars in the past I had to fill out a report with the truck driver showing all the damages done. Then upon recieving the car the buyer goes over the car and all damages to see if there are any new ones from shipping. This should all work out for you in the end, it might take a while though. CSL trunk FTW!!

Not a fan of the CSL trunk. I should have pictures up shortly.
Its really not that bad, but just hit in the wrong place. Right on the trunk lid crease line above the BMW emblem, Pushed in and scratched up. The scratches I can buff out and I may be able to get the dent guys to pop this out. But still getting my estimate from Wagonworks. Thanks again for the comments and help. |

It depends really, sometimes an insurance company will report it - sometimes not. I think many people here have had mixed experiences on that. I know that when I had to have a bumper replaced in the past (but it wasn't the result of an accident), it wasn't reported on anything.

It will show up if you report it to an insurance company.
It will also show up if you take it to a body shop that asks for your vin number. ( not 100% about this one )

Time will tell.... but I think I may ask DAS for additional money for potential depreciation of the cars value, given it may report on carfax.

One thing that I would note that is at least a good thing: DAS admitted their mistake and is manning up to pay. Of course, that's what they should be doing anyway. But so many threads on this forum rant about people being screwed, etc., etc. and while it still REALLY sucks that that happened to your new car, at least it'll be fixed and they are going to pick up the tab...
But I would still be really pissed... |
