Flashing My Car-Warranty

I am going to flash my 2011 335i tomorrow with Gintani, I was just wondering if it will void my warranty, and if I have anything to worry about?

Can BMW find it. And if I unflash it before I take it in will they still be able to detect it?

Ask this question in the "turbo" forum -- that's where all the zany modders hang out. A lot of the tunes throw hidden "tuner" codes that BMW can see. Some of these you may be able to delete with appropriate equipment and software. Those guys will know.

Of course, if BMW finds out, they can and probably will try to deny warranty coverage on any engine-related issues.

Also, read the sticky on the top of this page titled "mods and warranty"

Yes, this would be better suited in the turbo section; however, you'll get a whole bunch of facepalms, search emoticons, and sarcastic remarks, along with a different argument from each tune method's fanboys....

There are a lot of threads in there that go over the advantages and disadvantages of flash vs piggy, and a lot of speculation as to what is on the horizon as a counterpunch by BMW, but to answer your question in the most basic sense:

If BMW finds it, it will void your warranty. You ask if you should have anything to worry about... That's all relative. If you're sitting on a wad of disposable cash, then -- no -- you have nothing to worry about.

Depends on your dealer and SA more than anything. Some dealerships and even some SA's within dealerships that are not, are mod friendly. Meaning that they will not narc on you. However, that does not mean that someday BMWNA will not find out despite your SA's best efforts to conceal.

I think it has to do more with the tech (and the dealer) than with the SA. If the tech spots it then he doesn't have to work on your car because the warranty will be voided. Give an excuse to anyone not to work and they will jump on it.
