Modern day ZHP....
Would you consider the modern M-Sport/335is models to be a modern version of the ZHP? Aren't they going to be the sought after models in the years to come when e9x production ends?

Maybe the iS, but not the Msprt alone since the Msprt was essentially just cosmetic changes. I honestly still wished I had kept my AW 330ci ZHP

I sorta agree with you but what is it that makes you feel the 335i was inferior to a ZHP?

if i can recall everything, it consisted of:
10+hp and a 200 rpm limiter increase anthracite headliner alcantara seats and steering wheel stiffer suspention 3.46 (vs. 3.73) (or vise versa, i cant remember) final drive and the most important difference: (IMO) M-Tech II Body Kit and Style 135 rims

I think both will be.

if you're talking about rarity, then YES. there are so few M-sports compared to non-Msports. this was my thinking when i ordered my car. in 15-20 years my car will be a bit more special than an average E92.
on the other hand, if you talking in terms of performance, then NO. the ZHP had had significant performance upgrades that separated it from a standard E46. The same can not be said about an M-sport vs a standard E92.

ZHP was tailored to fill in a gap in the E46 series, that is a lack of 4DR M3. While it's no M3 in terms of acceleration, it is pretty close in the way it drives.
The iS IMO is simply a random thought to capitalize on the aftermarket crowd. Looks aside, you can take a base 335i and with very little cash make it perform like the iS. BTW, slightly off topic, but this weekend I drove to Montreal in the ZHP, I averaged 32MPH in that car. The best I could ever do in similar driving conditions in the 335i was 26MPG. If you look at recent pricing of the ZHP you can conclude that while any BMW fan will certainly appreciate that car, at the end of the day it is still a mass production car. And it's not even a different model, it's simply a package. With iS being technically a different model one could say that if the total production numbers stay low it may do a better job of holding its value.

the "IS" is an overhyped car. I wouldn't pay so much money for that. I can get a used M3.
And you know most of the people that buy the IS are going to start upgrading stuff: suspension, software, etc etc... so the extra money you just dumped on purchasing the car is a waste. |

funny, that's exactly what a lot of people said when ZHP 1st came out. I, too, ended up leasing a 330i Sport instead of the ZHP back in 2004 because I didn't think it was worth the extra money.

I think the 335IS is the modern day interpretation of the ZHP. The E46 ZHP is a killer car.

ZHP was nice, but it was not all that much better. Most of it was cosmetics.
Im sorry, but 10 hp and some incredibly minor suspension changes do not quantify some ultra exclusive package that is that much more sought out. Msport does most of what the ZHP did, and that was provide cosmetic upgrades. Sure, there is no boost in power or suspension mods, but BMW Performance has picked up the ball in that regard. |
