How do you put your E90 on jack stands?

Ok folks,

I've been digging and digging and I am still having hard time lifting my E90 335 with sport package on to jack stands.

I have low-profile hydrolic floor jack and a set of 2 jack stands. I can lift the car pretty high from the sides jack points BUT I see no place to put the jack stands.

No, my floor jack won't reach the front middle jack point shown as number 1 on this diagram:

All ideas and suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thanks

Drive onto 2x4's to raise the car a bit see if you can fit your jack under the central jack points.

Jack up from rear driver side lift point, place Jack stand on front driver side lift point, then place Jack on center front lift point, then place Jack stand on passnger side front lift point.

Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. I drive up on ramps or wood and that gives me enough clearance to then use the front jack point (1). I'm lowered quite a bit on Bilstein PSS9 and it's still possible.

^^I do this also, but if I don't have any 2x4s handy I jack up the whole driver side of the car from the rear driver side jack point. Once it is high enough I put 1 jack stand on the front driver side jack point and let it down on that. Once I've done that it is high enough to be able to get the jack up the front central jack point. I jack it up on that and set the front 2 jack stands at the height I want on the front 2 driver and passenger side jack points.

How about investing in a new jack that will reach the center jack point?

Agreed on the front way. I use ramps to get to the center jack point then place jack stands on the side points.

What is your next move to get the rear up? I have always been under the impression to never jack on the diff. But if you need to be on four jack stands how are guys getting the arse up?

Remember to chock those wheels people!

drive fronts up on blocks, slide my jack, find my point and go up, up up up very high because the two plastic jacking points are pretty far back and need to go up a lot to get my stands to rest. set my stands, slowly let her down.

go to the rear, get the jack up to the rear diff. Line it up, check to see that i'm right ahead of the diff cover w/ the bolts and send her back up. line up my jack stands and let her down slowly.

all done!

I normally use this cross-member instead of the differential to jack up the rear:

You don't have 4 jacking points behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels? They are very close to the edges of the car and have plastic "blocks" around them....

If you dont want to buy ramps you can do what I was taught:

1. Jack up the left side of the car where you would normally put a jack stand
2. Put cinder block under left tire.
3. Jack up right side of the car where you would normally put a jack stand
4. Put cinder block under right tire.
(You now have access to jack point #1)
5. Jack the car up using jack point #1
6. Put jack stands on left and right side of car, leave cinder blocks there as a
fail safe.

Hope this helped!

I have this one from Harbor Freight that I got for around $60:

It's low enough to get under my lowered car and reach the rear and side jacking points. To reach the front jacking point, I need to drive up on 2x4s.

I could be wrong, but I think BMW specifically says not to jack there as the holes in the crossmember compromise its strength....not 100% on this, but worth checking before you bend something

Isn't the cross-member the same as #4 in the picture above?

I use a lift. But there are many jacks with an elongated saddle that will reach the center jack point.
