Yea, unless you manually downshift, in D/DS you will take off from a stop in 2nd
DS will keep you in 2nd until you hit redline |

i daily drive in the DS mode that shifts itself.
i go to D then just switch the knob to the left. i dont mean shift yourself mode. i dont mean the DS where u are using the paddles or the shifter at all |

Yes, in DS the car shifts for you but will hold gears longer as it is the "sport" mode. In either of the two automatic modes, the lowest the car will go on it's own is 2nd gear. If you wish to take off from 1st or shift down into first, you must manually downshift from 2nd

Do you have the habit of holding the shift knob while you drive? If so, you probably jog it a bit going over a bump, and that puts you in M mode. Has happened to me a couple of times.
BTW, DS does start out in first, not second gear. D starts in second. To those who have counted the shifts, and only got 4, what is confusing is DS won't shift into 6th, ever, at any kind of speed you are likely to reach on the road. So you get 4 shifts, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, and 4-5. |

Are you sure you are not hitting one of the paddles by mistake while your sitting at the light? That would throw you into M mode by accident.

when im in DS mode, and i drive relatively slowly, it seems as though the car is braking for me. anyone else have this issue? if i slow down enough it starts to brake more even though im not pressing the brake pedal.

DS does shift to 6th gear. Cruise at highway speeds and shift as you were in M mode. The display will switch to M6 but the car won't shift as it's already in 6th.

It is nice to know but in this case it sounds like something electrical in the transmission is malfunctioning, is it reliably reproduce-able? If so, bring it in and go for a ride with your SA or tech

I'm positive my DS defaults to 2nd as well. Switch to DS while stopped & a manual upshift will get me 3rd and a downshift gets me 1st.
My M mode also defaults to 2nd. Come to a complete stop in M, from any gear (without downshifting yourself), and it'll be forced to downshift for you, stopping at 2nd. In my car, 1st is only manually accessible. I'm positive of that. |
