Brake Pedal Difficult to press

why is it that sometimes when i go to turn my car on it is very difficult to press the brake pedal? does the brake pedal and having a longer crank on the startup have anything in common?

there are times when i turn the car on and the brake pedal is very easy and goes down, and there are times when its stiff as hell.

Because usually before the car is on, brake assist is not engaged yet. When you turn on the car the brake should be fine.

yea when the car turns on the brakes are fine, i'm just trying to figure out why when the brake is difficult i am getting a longer crank and when the brake is softer i am getting a quick start.

after a certain time does the brake pedal become difficult to press on all 335i's?

brake booster pressure reservoir leak. It's a common problem. You can ignore it, or tell the SA about it next time it goes in for service.

This.

Getting mine fixed was quite a hassle. Don't let anyone tell you it's "supposed to go stiff", at least not overnight. Perhaps after a couple weeks it could lose some vacuum, but not hours. Mine once got so stiff overnight that I was unable to start the car, so I don't advise ignoring it (even if it's unlikely to get that bad for you).

Anyway, they usually start by replacing the check valve, and that fixes most people. Mine took that, plus two more actual boosters and a visit from the BMW RTE before it was finally fixed once and for all. It has never gone stiff since.

Good luck.

A bad part is a bad part, 1800 miles or not.

Long startups are likely unrelated and probably HPFP, and you should definitely have that addressed.

Yep, mine started doing it with like 4000 miles on the car - had it fixed in April and it worked for about 3 weeks and is just as bad now, will have it fixed again next oil change!

I have a 2011 335is purchased in June which has 4100 miles. The brake pedal is hard to depress when starting. It has happened about 7 times. The dealership has said they haven't heard about this occuring but to bring it in to be checked.
