Any cabrio owner's? looking for advice
Hi,
My lease on a 335i is ending and I am trying to change it up a bit. I am considering a 335ci or an M3. I have never owned a convertible before and looking for some feedback advice on them. I know both cars are different beasts, but my objective is to not end up in another 335i! I test drove a 328ci yesterday and I was amazed by the low wind noise with the top down and windows up. I did not like the fact that the top cannot be operated unless the car is at a stand-still (Even 3 miles/hour and the car refused) Other than that, any longer term experiences /gotcha's you can share? I am considering the Blue Water Metallic Thanks skimo |

I have a 2007 e93. With the windows up and the top down somebody in the passenger seat can read a magazine at 75-80 on the freeway no problem. I have even sat in the back seat once at freeway speeds 60+ and felt only a slight ruffling of the hair on top, certainly no wind in the face. Very well controlled wind and noise environment with the windows up, not so with them down but not to bad. With the windows up the bluetooth is still usable. The voice commanded dialing sometimes has a little trouble recognizing what you speak.

I have a highly tuned vert thats getting turbo upgrades in 20 days...all i can say is i love thing, just be careful of these damn structural braces on our e93s...they make ALOT of flexing noises if not adjusted properly when fitting things like exhaust and downpipes and such. Im full bolt-on btw.

I have had my 335ic for 4 months now without any issues, touch wood! The top is down 90% of the time and only goes up when I am at work. I had a Smartop installed which allows me to operate the roof remotely and also while the car is moving upto 25 mph. I went from a 335i E90 and wouldn't go back. Neither car has had any HPFP issues. Even in 100 plus temperature I have the top down and the seats don't seem to get too hot to sit on when I leave the car parked with the top down.

120K+ miles in 38 months here. Living in SoCal, my top has gone up and down more times than a 6 year old Ritalin addict on a pogo stick. No leaks, no flutter, no issues whatsoever.
And yes, BMW gave special attention to top down air flow. I have owned or driven several convertibles, roadsters, and Spyders over the years, and BMW set the bar with the E93. Obviously, after this many miles, the roof creaks and squeaks a bit more than when new, but still less than other ragtops I've owned.

This is my first Vert and I thought I would not use the top enough to justify it cause I get cold easily. Man was I wrong. This thing is GREAT !!! Love it.
+10000000 on the SmartTop. If you get a vert you must get it. Best Mod ever !!!! |

I have a 2007 335 E93 and still love it. I've had zero problems. On the original HPFP, no leaks, etc. You either love verts or you strongly dislike them. I have a 335is E93 on order and it will be my 5th vert.

Regarding the wind noise, if you get a wind deflector, it'll be pretty much gone Even at 160mph with the windows up and the deflector, you barely feel anything other than pleasure (completely empty freeway with no passengers don't flame me shesh) you can get a SmartTop for the "on the go" operating of the top best $365 I spent on this car but I am not going to keep mine out of warranty a 15k roof isn't worth it well, that is unless 07s who get out of warranty don't complain much we'll see Good luck with whatever you do

Im loving my 2010 E93, I too came from a 2007 335i Sedan. the car looks great top up or down and I have yet to have any problems with leaking. The car is very heavy though and you can tell the difference. Highway performance isn't impacted as much as down low...My fiance's SSTT equipped 135i can keep a nose on me until about 100mph and I have JB3 on map 5.
