Driving an e92 across country.

I just moved to Illinois and plan driving from California over the span of about 3 days.
Any advice on the trip for my car?
Any must do's?

Appreciate your insight!

Install seats from the 5-series sport package!!!

lmbo... Just kidding

-I would recommend having a compact spare if you can afford the space and an air compressor.
-Take it to a dealer and have the fluids topped off for free.
-Make sure your alignment is good.
-Drive safe and enjoy the drive.

So far, I've never had any problems, but my trips were shorter, about 1,000 miles. The 335i is very pleasant and comfortable on a long trip.

Bring a spare HPFP -- just in case.

Seriously, I feel uncertain about driving this car any real length of distance because of the HPFP.

Beyond that, have a fun trip. Sounds fun.

+1 on the spare and get yourself some 3m painters tape to tape up the front to protect it against rock chips.

forget the painters tape, looks tacky. spend the money and get a clear bra, it'll last for years and you'll never have to worry about it again. and when installed properly you can hardly see it. i would also check to make sure your car has an oil cooler since you're gonna be driving for 8+ hours a day. and get a radar detector. have a good trip

i'm also jealous, i've been waiting for a reason to drive across country myself.

I've always wondered what the hood looks like over the years, though. Eventually, does a two-tone look appear?

I like the idea of the clear bra, just curious if there is a time -- down the road -- when it's obvious that a clear bra is on the car.

Well I've been told that it's better to just save that clear bra money for a decent respray when you want to turn the car over.

I did the drive from SD to Chicago and all I'd recommend is lots of Red Bull and Monster. That drive is long, but at least you'll get to go through some cool mountain country. All I got in that respect was Arizona, which was surprisingly green and mountainous. Who would have known....

Anyway, yeah, I'd also recommend the spare tire kit.

I did a 2,000 mile trip (Salt Lake City, to New Orleans. 7 States) in less than 48 hours. Make sure you have an atlas in case your iDrive drops you. My nav totally died in Wyoming (the 2nd state out of 7 )and I was "up the creek without a paddle" to say the least.

car cell phone charger
redbull
make your hotel reservations in advance
CARRY CASH!!!! Fucking toll roads and no cash = one big hassle (goddamn I-70 in Colorado)

Just my past roadtrip experiences.

the old stuff use to color over times, but the plastic they use now doesnt. plus they come with a warranty so even if it does you can get it replaced.

Raja Ventureshield here installs them, if you have any questions talk to him. he just installed mine, great work

I spent the night in Kansas after getting fucked by Colorado tolls and the second day I went from KS down through OK before arriving that night in New Orleans and had cash for those tolls. I must have hit like 6 different toll booths. Almost didnt take out enough cash. I wish they could just upgrade and use debit.

I made the same drive from IL to CA in my 335. Wish I would have but some tape or the bra or SOMETHING on first.

Take the north route through CO, more scenic.

Yeah I wanted to do that but the entire midwest was flooded at the time, so instead of doing the CA-NV-UT-CO-NE-IA-IL route, I had to do CA-AZ-NM-TX-OK-MO-IL. Definitely would have liked to go through the rockies in CO.

Ya that blows, I just drove back from CA to MO using that route. Worst part is I have to take it again back in CA in another month.

Nothing but desert and shredded tires the whole way.

Very large water bottle for you! Nothing worse than be thirsty.

Suggested Route: (?) I moved your trip from Wyoming into Colorado (I-80 through western Wyoming blows - it's so boring and ugly)

Ah one more thing. Maybe I'm just a geek. Bring/buy a thick a$$ car cover before you go and watch the weather forecast. It sucks being in a hotel room watching the weather channel right before going to sleep and seeing a effing large hail storm on doppler radar forecast to hit your hotel's town in Iowa at 1 o'clock in the moring.
