oil cooler on N55 and other first impression on my E92 335xi
First, when checking for oil cooler don't just look for louver openings in the passenger whell well, all of 2011 335 models will have louvers but no guarantee oil coolers. I've seen a non-sport with louvers but no heat-exchanger behind it (the 1st picture I shot albeit a little poor quality, shows the aluminum radiator behind the louvers).
Or the best way is to pop the hood and look for 2 oil lines coming from oil-filter housing (2nd picture). With 7% more fuel efficient, I assume N55 will be leaner engine thus hotter so oil cooler is more important on N55 compare to N54 No worry on performance folks, plenty of torque down low, my little woman screech the tires shifting from 1st to 2nd. Before you jump on her driving, she is a good driver, own a CDL at one time where you need to rev-match to shift since semi truck has no synchro transmission. I was like wow!, I am going to love this car; can't wait until the break in period is over. The dark-clacier is just perfect and beauty, can't take the picture last night cause it was dark and everytime I used flash the camera wouldn't capture the 3-d textured in detail. IMHO, the best interior BMW has ever come up with after dark-bamboo on my 535i. the rear emblem says 335i and the below the side bliker it says x-drive. no more 335xi rear emblem Now the not so good part, the front fenders are painted ABS plastic. I know BMW always try to keep weight and balance in check but 3-series definitely getting cheaper treatment compare to my 535i (the 5 uses alum fenders and suspension to shave the weight). The hood and the rest of body panels are steel, for side impact crash safety I guess. Hope that ABS painted fenders won't fade after 5-6 years cause I keep my car for a long time. Will see. Thanks for the review. Good to hear it has "plenty of torque down low." I'm planning to take delivery of a 335xi within a week and I'll compare notes. One comment, the front and rear fenders have been plastic since the E92 was introduced in 2007, reason to achieve a perfect 50/50 balance.

I have. 2010xi and love it.
2 notes -the badging change was on my car too. I think its a few years old (no more xi) -And on brake in-I'm not a believe. A buddy of mine who is a bmw tech put it best "imagine what the sales guy do when they're trying to sell a car or mess around it themselves, they take the car two miles down the road to i95 and let 'er rip. Whether it is the potential customer or sales agent. They beat on the car with 5 miles and it fine. "

Its one thing for someone to drive the crap out of a car a couple of times but if you are keeping it for very long you need to vary the revs and not put too much load on the engine as per the manual. |
