E46 318i Mechanical Problems... Need Advice

Hey guys, sorry I don't know if this is the right place to post, I'm usually over on the 1addicts forum. My 2003 E46 318i steptronic has 101,000km's on it and as of today has been shaking and vibrating constantly.

It occurs mostly between 1,000rpm to 2,500-2,700rpm. The shaking is not in the steering wheel but in the car itself. In higher rpm's it seems fine. Also, the car is fitted with an aftermarket muffler exhaust which now makes a lot a more noise as though something is blocking it. It's at least twice as loud as before. The car constantly vibrates whilst it's at a standstill and even when it's in neutral.

I've recently had the car in for a 100,000km service and spent quite a few dollars getting everything up to scratch so I'm confused as to what it might be. Sorry, I can't go into more detail, I'm not that mechanically sound so any advice would be appreciated. I know the E46 3 series run into quite a few problems with age.

do the rpm's fluctuate? It could be a bad Mass Airflow Sensor. I had one go bad on my e46 325xi and it caused rough running low in the rpm range but nary a whisper above 3,000. Have you tried pulling obdII codes from the ecu?

Garage List
I had a similar issue and my revs would fluxuate... THis was on a 93 318i. It was the idle valve selenoid.
