Early Oil change & Oil Lab Test

First off I have 9900 miles and my 06 330i, was put in service on June 29th.

I'd like to have the oil changed, just because and have the oil tested.

If anyone has thoughts on my questions, I'd like to read them.

1) Does the dealer normally have a lab they send them to or do I have to find a lab and send out?

2) If the dealer does it what is reasonable to pay?

3) If I do it is there much saving for the hassel of doing it?

Any constructive comment(s) are appreciated.

Thanks,

Dean

Good luck with the dealer....highly doubt anyone there cares enough to get your oil tested. Use blackstone labs: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

1. no
2. n/a
3. Saving? meaning going through with it? I would wait longer than 10,000 miles. I have been schooled an engine is not 100% broken in until (here comes the flamers....) 10,000 miles.

Usually this process is done by people with very high mileage looking for internal components wearing to indicate engine failure is oncoming. We do it on aircraft engines almost weekly.

Or... .people with high performance engines.. over 500hp... also looking for premature engine failure. If you know what each component is made of, it's quite easy to predict which, and when, they will fail.

If you do it now, it will be full of titanium and aluminum, magnesium and iron.

You can find companies on the internet or parts stores that sell kits, put some oil in a little bottle and send it off. Just don't put the first stuff that comes out the drain plug, the sediment will skewer the results.
