Dieter(my sales guy) says Active Steering is unnecessary
Dieter,my sales guy,and long time friend, says that "All BMWs come with active steering, and that the Active Steeing option,is just an enhanced version,of what BMWs already have, and its a waist of money".
There you have it.from a sales guy. xavier |

they do not have active steering standard. Dieter needs to go back to Germany for some lessons on the cars he sells.

Dieter, has actually been in this business for sometime, and he occasionally goes to BMW headquaters in Munich. Oh, and I forgot to add that he said that "Active Steering is for really large cars, like the 7 series,or bentleys."

Active steering is a completely different beast. The purpose is not to make steering any lighter/looser, but to reduce the turning angle of the wheel at lower speeds. Basically much like in modern Indy/F1 racing cars where a 45 deg turn of the wheel will take the car through a 90 deg corner. |

Sounds like he means "all BMWs have steering that is active" and that enhancing it is unnecessary. In my experience, German BMW salespeople often say stuff like that. As in, "the 3er is more dynamic than the 5er, in the engineering and technics" or "perfect balance has been attained" and stuff like that.

During my test drive a month ago, my salesman also indicated that he felt that the active steering was an unnecessary option and discouraged me from ordering it. Told me that some who had it found that they tend to "over-steer" with it and had some control issues. I guess it could take some getting used to, but I personally think that the standard steering is just fine

I love active steering the car that I test drove had it, and so does the one that I ordered. It is IMO another inhancement to the already wonderful feel of the 3 series.

this has been discussed many times before and i will post my opinion again:
- it's not a necessery option - but it's cool to have it, and very useful in parking
