So long :(

Well it's actually be a month or so. But I had to do a voluntary repo on my 335. I got laid off last September and could no longer afford the payments. Nor did BMW financial want to work with me. So for now I got a 2010 GTI, until I get back on my feet again. The GTI is actually pretty nice good quanlity materials inside and out. Performance lacks but I'll chip it soon, handling is very good for a FWD car I'm impressed.

It's been good!

Sorry to hear that. Look on the bright side, now someone else can deal with the potential HPFP issue.

Honest question, how and why did you decide to get into a $30k 2010 GTI if you got laid off and no longer could afford the payments on the bimmer? Did you pay cash?

Those GTIs are nice cars. I really don't think it's that much of a downgrade at all. Infact, if something happened to my 330 the GTI would be on the top of my list as a replacement car.

I had a 2007 GTI before my 335 and I loved it. The new one looks even sweeter! The chips make a huge difference more so than on a 335 IMO.

Damn that sucks. GTI is nice tho. I got the chip in my car because my stock 335 couldn't keep up with my friends chipped GTI. When he took off I couldn't catch up quick enough

I can see downgrading from a fancy new car to a used Civic or something. But a $30k brand new GTI? Your deal on the 335 must've been awful.

Wait a minute, you are not "off your feet" if you are buying a 30k car.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out how this works.

Have a voluntary repo on the 335 and then get a new GTI....

1) how'd you do that?
2) how is that "back on your feet"?

Anyway, sorry to hear about the tough times. Seems there are enough depressing stories around this country at this moment to last a few generations.

I don't get it also...I see he had a 2007 335i, so at this time it should be around 20k-30k left to pay off unless he Zeroed down...doesn't really make any sense..

What if he had two cars? Maybe its his girlfriends, wifes, friends, parents car? Maybe he leased it? Maybe he stole it? GTI starts at 23k while a 335 starts in the 40s that's twice the price.

Or you could all be right.

saw an old e30 325i at work, car looked old and in poor shape but had brand new roundels, brought a smile to my face knowing someone appreciates these cars enough to drive something that old just to be in a bimmer.

Normally it's "I'm riding the bus until I'm back on my feet again."

Didn't your credit get dinged big time? And if you had the cash to get a new car, then why did you spend that money in the first place when you're current income situation is so fragile? Kind of strange to post this in public, like others have said.

I guess you live with your parents. And that you aren't 100% dependent on a job. And they helped you get another car.

The new GTIs are fantastic little cars. Coming from the VW/AUDI world, I always wanted to have one. When I was shopping for a new car and I did the math, I figured out that I can actually buy a fully loaded 335i without even putting a dent on my budget.

Good luck with the GTI and do not forget to register with vwvortex.com Its currently the largest online car community in the world!

RIP-A4, sorry about your problems. Silver lining is that you now have a car that is more reliable than anything with theN54 engine. Good luck.

Agreed, but what if the OP had some money saved and was able to get a good financing deal on the GTI? Or what if he does live with his parents? What if he doesn't have to pay rent? I just don't think its fair to be bashing him like this when he has not explained his background situation. He did not say his GTI was $30K, unless that is their starting price.

Congrats on the GTI. People sure do make a lot of assumptions though. Lol. There could be many variables that we just don't know about. Let the man explain himself. However, I do agree. Getting laid off and buying a $30k car would be a bit pricey imo.

I'm not bashing at all. I was just asking how that was possible to go from a repo to another car purchase, and a GTI doesn't seem like a sound decision when there are much cheaper alternatives. But, like others said, maybe the car was in the family already. I dunno.... Not my place to judge the OP; I was just asking a couple questions.
