G37s to 335..anyone else make this change?
Hi guys,
I am a new member to e90post because my lease on my G37s is up this July. I previously had a G35 and now I am seriously considering getting an e92 335. I have yet to test drive one, but was wondering if anyone here has driven both and can give me a real life comparison. I have a 6MT and will get a 6MT on the 335 as well. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. |

I have driven both chassis but G35S sedan, not G37 Coupe. In E9x form I've driven E90 325i, 325xi, 330i, 335i, and E92 328i and 335i. The power of the G was similar to the 335, but the engine seemed more "crude," not necessarily worse as it depends on what you want, but the N54 is definitely more refined IMO...never driven the N55.
In steering/handling, the BMW wins hands down, except for the X version which I didn't care for. Make sure you're comparing your 37S to a car with the sport package (ZSP) and make your own decision |

I think if one is in a lease mode, going from a G37 lease to a 335 lease is a satisfying move. Going from a purchase into a lease, that would make no sense. With a lease, the HPFP issue is minimized, it's not your car and they'll give you a loaner.
I didn't know G37's were even old enough for their leases to be coming to an end. Amazing brave new world we live in! |

Test drove both when I was in the market for a new car. G37S was both slower and didn't feel as great... still a great looking and amazing car though. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I test drove both when I was car shopping...G37s and 335i both 6spd and sedans...the G37s has a faster FEEL to it in my opinion, but I believe the 335i is definitely faster...the build quality of the BMW is much better...I've owned Japanese performance cars and I just do not like how they wear over time...I chose the BMW over the Infiniti because of better quality, the deliver of power from the N54, as well as styling...I was offered free maintenance for 3 years by the Infiniti sales rep and still chose the BMW

I went from a 2005 G35 sedan 6MT to a E90 335i 6MT. I really loved the G35 but I couldn't find the new model with 6MT and the G37s were just coming in and 6MT was not available for 6 months.
The 335i is definitely faster and handles better than the G35 I had. The one thing in the G's favor is that it is much more reliable. I've had 2 high pressure fuel pumps (HPFP around here) replaced and almost on a third in 1 year. I've also had the fuel injectors replaced. There have been other little problems such as the radio not turning on and software updates that I've had to have done. The G in 3 years had 2 issues. One minor, one major. The minor one was that burned CDs would get stuck unless you bought thin CDs (no problem). The major problem that I encountered twice was when using cruise control, I had my engine and everything else cut out on me when accelerating using the steering wheel controls. That was quite scary losing all power (brakes, steering, acceleration) especially when going fast. I stopped using the CC after that. That said, the 335i is definitely a better driver's car. The G I would say is 90-95% of the 335i. But it's cheaper and more reliable. It's all a trade off. Like someone else said, you can't go wrong with either choice. |

I drove the G35 and 335i back-to-back, on the same loop, in the span of about 90 minutes. G35 was fast, but it felt like it was working harder, much less refined. Both dealers were a loval automall. 30km ramp from highway back into automall. took the corner at about 100k in the G35 no problem. In the BMW I did it at the same speed, but was so smooth I could have done it one handed while drinking a cup of coffee.
Drive the 335. If you don't know why the 335 is worth more after a few minutes....getthe G. I bought the BMW., PS - easy to add an extra 50+ hp to 335 with a simple software update (I used Dinan). Can't do that with any G. |

I test drove the G37S 6MT first, it felt heavy to me, not enough torque I think for the weight...I bought the 335i 6MT before driving another beforehand, haven't looked back since

I came from an 08 G35S to 07 328xi, both 6MT. Since I don't own the 335 so I won't knock it. I can tell you the clutch and stick on the MT are better in the G. Check out 1st to 2nd gear bock and notch, CDV, etc and you'd see what I mean.

I ordered the G37 two months before it came out so I could be the first person to have one. I had it for 1.5 years, and loved every second of it. After I was done with that car I leased my 335. To be honest the G37 was really fun to drive, but the BMW just feels like a better made car.

I owned a 2003 G35 coupe from Nov 2006 until I traded it for my 2007 335i coupe. Both were automatics. In my opinion the 335 is much more powerful and a better drivers car. I just ordered a 2011 335i coupe. I considered the G37 Coupe but said no way. Either car is great but IMHO I would go with the BMW

I currently have a 04 g35 coupe and currently waiting on my 335is coupe. Since the coupe isn't out yet, I test drove the convertible 335is at the dealership several times and by car, the bmw is the better car. After driving the bmw, my g35 coupe feels cheap and isn't that great. But, I would expect the bmw to be better since I am paying more than I did for the g35.
