Does your car do this?
Snapped a pic of car for new rims and someone commented on why is your rear window go down like that.
I went out to look at the way the rear window goes down and thought that part was always stationary. Tried the keyfob unlock and hold trick and all 4 windows and sunroof open as they are supposed to. That part of the rear window didn't move. I've never seen this before. Any ideas?

I didn't realize those windows went down at all! What button do you press?

I have no idea.... it wasn't intentional. Someone just pointed it out to me from another post I made on my rims and asked why that window is down. Bizarre!

Haha, +1 My friend and I were saying the exact same thing when we saw this pic on the other thread. That would be a cumbersome mod I would think - installing a track for the window, different glass likely, an additional motor or tying it into the main motor. Any chance its an optical illusion? <-- Nevermind, clearly it is not an illusion |

I ran out of my office as it's raining and checked. It's up. I took 2 pics, one with flash on , one without flash. Both have same view of window "appearing down". Double checking my license plate now that it doesn't read 666

Exactly, I just went out and checked mine. I dont see how this is possible. There is a 2-3 inch section of that "dotted" glass (like you have at the top of the windshield) following the kink and the C-pillar, but its a smaller section than in the picture.
This is really bizzare - that window most certainly appears down in that picture. |

My guess is that it is a shadow or reflection from something overhead. The shadow cuts the glare, so it looks like there is no glass. It is weird that the shadow/reflection doesn't carry over onto the other glass, but you never know.
Just a guess. |

Could be Photoshopped as well. The curve of the glass doesn't look uniform.

This is definitely the explanation in my opinion. I'm very confident he didn't take the time to photoshop that haha, considering he just went out to check his own car...

Haha, no way that glass is down.
Looks like a reflection of the roof of the gas station.

I agree it could be some sort of shadow, but it is too perfect the shadow is only hitting the glass not the rest of the car like the van. Something does not look right, I just have not put my finger on it yet.

I've shown it to a bunch of people at work. They too can't believe it's not really down, but if you study it closely, the glass curve would never match up to the frame. Also now see a similar effect on the mini van. Very odd indeed.

It can't be a reflection, if it was it would extend to the main door window in the same shape but this doesn't happen. There's no reason why it would stop exactly at the black trim. The curvature, even if rotated a little, would not fit the shape as BTM said. Photoshop I doubt it, you see the window and transparency on the other side of the car plus, what would be the point of photoshopping that?
My only guess is that it's broken. Someone broke that window to open the door and clean up the broken glass around the rest of the frame. That curvature could be of the remaining glass, it's the only explanation. Plus at the top of the frame you can see a tiny bright piece left, might be left over broken glass . The owner probably left his keys in and decided to break the window with the least possible cost to repair. |

I thought it could have been broken or cut with a glass cutter, but safety glass shatters so that can not be is and remember the op took the picture himself, so he either busting our stones or something odd is going on here.
