2011 335is vs 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

As the prices for our beautiful 335s keep climbing (at least new from the dealer) how many would consider the upcoming Caddy instead. The prices are pretty much the same loaded out. The styling of the Caddy is a love or hate it design and the 335 is just sweet no matter who you are. But for $62K a loaded 556HP coupe sounds really temping...

Let the opinions fly.

I'd take the CTS-V, sedan or coupe.

If I were buying new...and looking between the two.

I agree, with the rising prices of the 3 series..... (which is nuts!)

CTS-V . No brainer for me.

You want to give up German craftsmanship for a union-built piece of GM junk with a Corvette engine that will literally fall apart in 3 years? Really...read some back issues of Road & Track, Car & Driver, etc. and see how well their CTS-V long-term test cars fared. Really up for that 10-12MPG experience? Oh, be prepared to lose about 50% value in the first year, too. All this, not to mention the really ugly Cadillac styling.

Not man keep their cars after 3 years (some keep until 10, or more, but on avg 3-5 years max; hence the success of leases)

Styling is up to opinion

I like it

but for 62k... I'd go for a not so loaded M3...

or a used Porsche :P

but, between the two, I'd take the CTS-V

I was just thinking today that it would be more of a comparison between the M3 and the CTS-V coupe.

While I love my BMW, after watching the Top Gear special with the CTS-V from San Fran to Salt Flats, Id have to go with the CTS-V.

Personally, I'm drooling over the CTS-V Wagon!! Pull up next to any BMW at the moment and leave it at the line!

For a while I was looking at the CTS-V until I bought the e90 335i. The V's are neat cars but they don't hold their re-sale value at all. how could you take a caddy over a bimmer anyways. I'm all for american made products but I will never own an american made car, trucks are another story. If you are looking for power you might as well buy a C6 vette, you can get 05's in the mid to upper 20's now days.

I used to "poo poo" the CTS-V on the looks until I saw one in person, sat in one and then heard the exhaust note as it pulled away. I'm now a fan of the CTS-V sedan. I'll need to see the CTS-V coupe in person to offer an opinion here. But if we are talking about coupes, I'll take the C6Vette Grand Sport. Most people don't realize it but a Vette has more cargo area than most GT cars....if you need 4 seats, then obviously it won't work.

Regardless -- I'm not spending anywhere near $60K on a 3 series BMW.

I almost bought a used CTS-V or new G8 GT, nothing like an LS V8. It's not like the x35i doesn't have a ton problems... But like persian said, a not so loaded m3...

Have you seen the resale values on our cars lately? Nothing to write home about or consider in which of the two cars to buy IMO.

The interior in that CTS-V shits all over our 3 series. Their overall build quality is about on par with BMW as far as I'm concerned....perhaps even less orange peel in the paint. If they would put the CTS-V interior in the Corvette it would be GAME OVER for many many sports cars. Imagine a Z06 with interior fitout of a CTS-V

I've owned two Corvettes and two BMW's. All are and were used as daily drivers.

Problem encountered with the Corvettes (GM):

'01 C5 Z06, active handling sensor (1).
'07 C6 Z51, ZERO so far.

Problem encountered with the BMW's:

'01 330Ci, multiple brake sensors (5+) on the '01 330Ci, TRANSMISSION FAILURE at 58k miles. Even my parent's GM Astro Van transmission lasted longer (150k+ and still going strong)

'07 335i, both turbos replaced three months ago at 40k miles.

From my experience, Corvettes are way more reliable than BMW's. However, I drive a 335i because I think it's one of the best sedans out there. Recently I thought to myself that if I were to replace the 335i sedan, I might get a CTS-V.

Between a CTS-V and 335 coupes? Hard to say, I think the bmw looks better. Haven't seen the caddy coupe in person yet so can't say. It's a toss up for me.

If it were between sedans I would take the caddy hands down.

I would prefer the XF Jaguar to replace the 335, not a Cadillac.

I've been looking at a CTS-V to replace the e90. Leaning that way, especially if a good lease were offered. I will say that GM cars have been a LOT better these past few years.

Just read the latest JD Power report that the Cadillac DTS was the best car last year with the least number of reported problems. BMW didn't even make the top 10 this time. Funny, Porsche was number one with the least reported problems per 100 cars sold. It was a random survey, so take it for what it is. Still GM and Ford both finished in the top 10 this go round. Maybe they are finally getting it!

Oh, the Corvette motors are just crazy good! Worth riding around in a plastic interior just to have that motor roaring...

Huh? The base is under that and comes nearly complete. Add the Recaro seats, yes they have a Recaro seat option this time and the price is around $62K.

Again, I love my E92 335i. But that much power in a coupe is just so sweet!
