Guess not enough people see the post I made in the sticky up top, so I figured I would post it here. A few days ago I noticed my car is making this knocking noise somewhere in the engine, its not exactly ticking. Sounds like its coming from the head, but I'm not sure. Is this something I should be concerned about? It goes away after some driving, but is always there after the car has sat for a little. I do plan on going to the dealer to get it checked out but just wanted to get some feedback first.

hey - i have the same problem and the car is 2 weeks old with 1,500 miles.

going to get it checked out as well. Doesn't seem to bad as of the moment.

I took it in and they couldn't hear the knocking/tapping. Guess its not loud enough yet, I know I hear it for sure especially when parked next to 2 cars. Will give it another shot later.

Hey Guys,

I don't know if this is the same noise, but it sounds similar (although more pronounced and louder). I happened to be killing time on YouTube yesterday looking at BMW videos, and I came across this one. The video is for some type of Vanos fix.

Maybe head back to the dealer and ask them if this could be the problem.. Or at least make sure it's documented so if you've got a warranty you'll be covered.

The above video isn't an E90 engine.

This is the sound I had:

and they replaced my exhaust lifters under warranty to fix it. Documented as SIB 11.09.07 in the paperwork.
