Glass Sunroof Vs Carbon Fiber
what would you guys recommend. I am looking into the Monte Carlo edition m3. I have a 335i at the moment, with sunroof of course. I do not know if for the m3, I should go for carbon fiber roof, because it looks awesome, or have the functionality of a sunroof. Any suggestions? Any other reasons to opt out of one for the other?
I apologize in advance, if similar threads have been posted, that I have not searched for.

Carbon Fiber X1000.
Sets you apart from any other non-M car, and I personally only use the Tilt function on my sunroof which doesnt really do much anyways. |

Sunroof. I use it all the time when it's sunny. CF saves weight and looks cool, but I couldn't live without a roof in my DD.

CF roof.
Not only it does look good, but the whole point of any performance enthusiast (rest aside adding of performance part) is to save some weight, which is exactly what the CF roof does. As pointed, you didn't . I suggest you do so in the M forum. This way, you'll have feedback from daily M drivers ...

If you wanna save weight in an M, get the sedan. You save a whooping 20 lbs with the CF roof. With the sedan you get more doors AND a sunroof.

sorry I meant from sedan to coupe. Sedan doesn't have the CF roof while the Coupe does (to save weight).

Any idea why the CF roof is available on the M3 and not the 335? Maybe the necessary reasearch funds are being soaked up by the BMW marketing department's six figure incomes.
I saw CF-roof M3 today when I took my car in for servicing. Sure looks nice, though it would be nicer if they managed to put a sunroof in it too (I know, I know, that would defeat the purpose of the CF roof, but heck, they made an M3 e93, one would think BMW has the technology to make a CF roof with a sunroof in it).

I vote the cf roof. I find sunroofs to be one of those nice ideas that really doesn't get used much. Plus, I think the cf looks cooler. But most importantly, the weight savings between the two options is significant. And saving weight on the roofline is huge. Only thing better is losing weight on the wheels (imo).

Exactly why a CF roof with a CF sunroof insert would be nice. You get weight savings and luxury.

What a bizarre question.
Either you want a sunroof or you don't care. The weight savings only come into play if you would track the car heavily - in which case you probably know that you wouldn't want a sunroof. This reminds me of the i-drive/M-Sport thread a few days ago - two completely different options. It sounds like saying "I'm going to the mall. What should I buy, a hamburger or a can of paint?" |
