My BMW feels wobbly.

Hi, how's it going?

Lately I've been noticing that my car wobbles and doesn't feel as solid/stable like it used to be. I've checked the tire pressure and it looks fine too! I did hit a few pot holes the last month or so but none of them were above 30 mph. Just wondering if you guys have had a similar issue before?

Some symptoms:
-drive is more wobbly than before
-steering slightly looser than before
-when braking hard, car tends to pull to the right or left
-steering sometimes shakes more than normal when going over rough surfaces

Tire pressure is normal: 32F/35R and have also played around with different configurations, issue still exists.

I couldn't visually tell if I have a bent rim or bubbles in my tire. I have an appointment with by service adviser next week as well.

Thanks!

1. When have you last gotten an alignment?
2. Check to make sure your wheels are properly balanced

^ If you lowered your car after your alignment its likely you will need another one - depends on the drop.

Things to consider if your car wobbles:

- Bent wheels
- Bad alignment (car could pull to a side under hard braking)
- Warped rotors (wobbling happens on braking)
- unbalanced wheel + tire combo

I have the same feeling! I do need an alignment and I talked to my SA about that he told me because I have aftermarket wheels(v710) They cant do alignment for me cuz they dont have the equipment.
Guess Ill have to find another place and see if it helps.

I have seen some big f-ing pot holes that will mess your car up at 15mph.

+1 i have the exact same issue..my car feels like its on the suspension of an oldsmobile recently..steering feels less responsive and loose, my shocks are squeaking and i keep on thinking about changing out the suspension/coilovers..let us know if anyone has taken their car to the stealership for any of these issues!

My car has a similar loose feeling, steering is not as tight as it use to be, the turn in is still sharp but no real feel of the road. Feels like a Lexus now... maybe not that bad, maybe more like a MB.

I've told the dealership during my last service, the SA at my dealership said "You shouldnt complain about that, lighter steering is a good thing"

If you have transitioned from RFT to conventional tires it will feel more loose as well.

Interesting old thread, thought I'd share it here -
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2613

It could be the tire pressure that we probably need to play around to get that taught steering feel back...

The magic tire pressure numbers are:
Front 30 PSI
Rear 33 PSI

The car handles like a dream. I think the recommended tire pressure is inaccurate or maybe it only applies to Euro roads/weather conditions. That link I posted above definitely helped!

Thanks for posting - I'm keeping track of this thread as I'm beginning to think I have this issue (albeit on a less significant level) as well

For those tire pressures, is your car a coupe or sedan?

Mine is a 2009 328i Sedan. Also check out the link I posted above and make sure to measure your tire pressure first thing in the morning to get accurate readings.

hmmm glad i saw this, I just got my snow tires off (on their own aftermarket rims) and put my stock summer 162's on and noticed the same sensations, I'm thinking its to do with going from a non RFT to a RFT that i'm experiencing this, but I will def. check out the pressure, as the place I go to normally check & fill up the wheels they may have gone a little overboard

I got the loose steering and Wobbly feeling after having an accident fixed. Control arm, wheel bearing and spindel were replaced and a toe link mount was reinforced. I hear there's a service bulletin out for certain steering racks. I'm going to ask my dealer about It once im done with school. I think the wobbling, for me at least, Is becuase one of the shocks were damaged and on is leaking now. I'm getting shocks and springs in a month or 2 though.
