Can Power folding door mirrors be programmed?

My neighbor mentioned to me today that one of his co-workers could fold/un-fold the door side mirrors while locking/un-locking his BMW remotely. I thought this could be also be programmed via i-drive on '07 e92 - can this be done?

I don't believe it can be done. On the '06, it could be done if you have CA but only by using CA to lock, not with the fob. On the '07, I don't think it can be done at all, short of hacking into the system.

But if you push the button to fold them in before you leave the car, they'll auto-unfold when you drive off, once you reach 28mph.

Hmmm... another thread said this is possible in Europe, not the US.

It's more like 3-4 inches, but who's counting... It might save the glass.

Can't program them on the 335 with iDrive, you have to push the button, this is apparently new for the '07 model in the US.

yeah right and one can also argue why you need buttons to roll down the windows or open the car remotely. It is more convenient and practical feature than most of the other bells & whistles especially if you don't like bumping into these while you have it parked next to another car OR moving through narrow areas etc etc

Yes be realistic......some streets are really tight and the 1-4 inches can save your mirror
especially for people in other countries

+1 don't knock until you use it and realize how great it is to avoid getting your side mirrors scraped in a tight spot.

when locking my car, I just hold the button on the remote a bit longer, and then the mirrors fold. They unfold when I unlock the car...very neat feature...

I think this feature is disabled in North America, something to do with the windows going up automatically by remote. However if you put your key in the lock and hold it in the lock position it will do the same thing, i.e. close all the windows and fold the mirrors in.

I'm not sure if many people use the folding mirrors whilst driving, but I always fold them when I park to avoid other motorists knocking them off for me.

I dont know where you have streets in US (esspecially) where you cant go with a BIG OLD truck that a lot wider than a e90/92...even in Europe, you cant find a street that will "scrape" your mirrors...There are Road Standards in this world
On top of everything it is illegal to drive with folded mirrors.

And if you are parked, you should remember that modern cars have springs inside the mirrors to prevent breaking...So, again absolutely pointless feature.

The springs won't do jack if you get hit by a car. The springs prevent snapping when people walk into them.

Try driving in the old sections of Spanish towns like I did in October. There was a street in Seville that I had to fold in the mirrors for as a precaution.

Maybe it never happen to you before, but my 2 previous cars had the mirror replace because of some stupid idiots thinking that the streets in the USA is wide enough for their bigass SUVs. Same thing happen to my dad, so is not a pointless feature.

Not sure why you need to argue about this ???

I got it with my premium package and I didnt think it was of much use but it suprisingly has been very convenient when I park it in my garage it actaully makes the differnce in that tight space when I am walking aroudn the side.

I wonder if this feature would become active on my US 330i if I had the software updated here before I move back to the U.S.

You should see some of the streets in the UK! Trying to drive round the backstreets to find a parking space near my work is a nightmare because people double-park. Then you get massive garbage trucks coming down these roads that are far too small for them - and when they try and pass you, you're thankful for every inch off the width of your car, trust me!

Exactly, I drove down a tiny street in Switzerland literally between 2-bldgs. They had lights at each end of the narrow street; so that, people took turns going through.

In my lifetime, I have seen at least four mirrors of parked cars hit and cracked by a passing vehicle.

It doesn't help that the mirrors of all other cars stick out about 6-10 inches.

It's odd. Almost like they accidentally kept the keyfob lock behavior with CA in the '06, then realized, "Wait a minute! The US cars aren't supposed to be able to do that!" and they cancelled it for the '07.
