If the tires weren't installed with TPMS, will there be any warning lights?
Quick question: Say I purchased a used E90 on which the tires were replaced by the previous owner. I just noticed the valve stems don't look like the TPMS ones I have on my Z4. Instead, they look like traditional rubber valve stems.
This lead me to believe no TPMS was installed with the replacement tires but wouldn't I get a warning light when the car can't detect any TPMS signal at all? TIA. |

You should get a TPM malfunction light

Just did a little more research, since the car is a 07, it's possible that it has the FTM and not TPMS which means no sensor in the tires but rather, on the calipers.
Can someone else confirm this? |

I know for certain that the first few e90's do not throw errors if you dont have tpms, but I'm not sure where the cutoff point is

If the car was produced after March 2007 it has TPMS. If it's before that it has FTM. I believe they started doing TPMS in March so if it's March production it should have TPMS.

I purchased my '06 325i that has after market rims and I am not sure if it has a TPM sensor on the rims. I put on winter rims and tires that do not have a TPMS and the tire pressure warning light came on. I initialized it real quick and the warning light went away. I have been driving all winter with the rims and have not had another warning. We will see what happends when I put the summer rims back on next week.

Maybe you meant 2006? My 09/06 build has TPMS, not FTM. It was basically 2006 model cars that had FTM IIRC.

Maybe that's true for the coupe. But I know the sedan didn't come with TPMS until about March of 07. Any car produced after that period of time has TPMS (I think).
