Return of the 328Ci and 335Ci name with the E93?

Not sure if this is old news, but looks like BMW will bring back the "Ci" name with the E93 Convertible.

They filed papwork this month with CARB (California Air Resource Board) using those names on the 328. For example, there may be model designations such as 328Cxi for a 328 Convertible with X-drive.

Document is here: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad/...215_3d0_u2.pdf

good 'cause it was a bad idea... now you look at dealer inventory and have to f... idea if it's a 2dr or 4dr before you really get down to the description.

Good example of if it ain't broke don't fix it.

yeah, good thing they're bringing it back, the naming convention right now is retarded

my guess is, they ditched the effort to name the coupe the 4 series at the last minute

Couldn't the C stand for convertible now so they can differentiate e92 from the hardtop E93?

Does this piece of paperwork really show they are bringing the name back? Its just an emissions document.

The Ci and Cic naming convention is still used in all emissions and customs/port paperwork. The govt never stopped using those designations. Ever since e92s were being dropped into the US back in mid-summer the Ci designation was still on govt paperwork. This doesn't mean BMW is bringing the nameplate back. It only means the govt paperwork is either wrong for the past 6 months or they needed an easier way to differentiate vehicles on their paperwork.

That’s great if the nameplate is coming back. But this document and all the emissions docs dating back to the first e92 don’t prove it.

To clarify, the use of "Ci" here is for the MY07 convertible (not the coupe).

The document is for "New Passenger Cars" and also reads "328Ci Convertible" with a 3.0L engine. It is not a reference to the MY2000 328Ci Coupe.

yeah, it's kinda stupid for them to name everything to "i", i prefer "Ci" instead of "i". I wish they could change it back to Ci.

The California Emissions Approval, dated November 1, 2006, is definitely for the 2007 328 coupe and 328 convertible. The 2006 328 coupe must have been previously approved.

+1. It said for the model year 2007: 328i, 328Ci, 328Ci Convertible....and we already saw the 328 coupe with no "Ci", but "i" only like the 328 sedan. So my guess is ...no C in front of i.

Yes, its for the 2007 model. There was no 328 in 2006 in the USA. 2006 3 series line for the US was 325 & 330.
