High Gloss Shadow Line

Ok chaps... I'm just hours away from confirming the exact specs on my coupe, but the dealer has suggested because I'm going for Montego Blue, the default chrome trim around the windows might stand out a bit too much and has suggested I think about the High Gloss Shadow Line which might look a bit sleeker (his words!)

I don't see anything wrong with the chrome to be honest and think it makes the car look quite classy. Don't see any UK members cars with the HGSL, but would appreciate any thoughts.

Dealer claims its showing at the factory as being at stage 1200 (something like that) but spec is still configurable and I should have the car by Christmas

I ran out of money before I got to that option.
Seriously though, it's down to personal taste. I thought Sparkling Graphite would look better without it.

rayb, I see your ETA is late December. My dealer said on the phone this afternoon definitely before Christmas, but I need to get things confirmed.... pretty much tomorrow before its too late!

Am thinking of not going for the High Gloss and sticking with the chrome

Check out the other pics in my garage for a view of Montego Blue with the chrome.

Z4 Beemer The Montego Blue and chrome on Red355's car looks fantastic.
I'm almost tempted to change my order. What other options have you gone for?
My car should be at the dealers on Dec 4th but I've asked them to register it and Jan and I'll take delivery on Jan 2nd. I know that's the sensible thing to do but the wait is going to kill me.

I've seen the High Gloss Shadow Line on a Space Grey Coupe and it looked "wrong". It looks good on black though, and might look good on the very dark blue (Monaco). I didn't spec it on my car (Sparkling Graphite) because it's a fairly dark grey and I thought the chrome trim lifted it a bit, and looked good with the chrome grille and alloys.

I'm wondering what the M-Sport's going to look like, but for now I'm quite happy with my choice of 335d SE, which seemed to look "right" with the chrome trim.

I have the black line finish on my 330i M Sport in Sparkling Graphite and love it.

The chrome bits remind too much of Audi's and Jags who overdo it with the chrome look.

Don't get me wrong the Bimmer looks good with the chrome, but on a Spark Graph finish motor, the complete "high gloss black" look is

On the saloon the high gloss shadowline also high glosses the black bits of the wing mirror and the black panels between the doors - for that it's worth it on it's own.

Ok - its all done and dusted.

red355, your pics of the Montego blue and chrome look smart, and I would be very happy with that look - so chrome it is.

I've been quite reserved with the options:

325i coupe (will I be the first UK person on here to have the 'baby' engine ?)
Jade Grey Dakota Leather
Star Spoke 189 style 18" alloys
Elec folding mirrors
Floor mats
Sports seats
High Gloss black interior trim

I'm still in discussion with the dealer as to whether the optional exhaust chrome tips for the 325i saloon will fit the coupe, since the 325i coupe doesn't come with any exhaust tips as standard

Dealer says I will have it by 20th December at the latest

Thanks to all who helped influence me with the choice of options.

Not 100% sure but I think the 335s have Matt Chrome (as Std) whereas your 325 will have the polished Chrome finish

I have high gloss shadow line on my car.. but then the car is silver, so it works quite well in contrast.

The UK brochure states the following:

The 325i has visible, dual, left, round, diameter 60 mm - just bare metal, don't even think its polished!

The 330i and 330d have dual, left, round, chrome finisher matt, diameter 72mm

The 335i and 335d have visible, single, left and right, round, chrome finish matt, diameter 80 mm

I'm hoping the part for the 325i saloon will fit the coupe.

Real Thing aaaahh ok, i see what you mean, the 335s do have matt chrome pearl grey exterior trim, rather than just chromline trim.

When I went to the launch they had a 335i & a 325i both in space grey and I didn't notice any difference at the time so I'm sure the Chromeline will look fine

Why are you waiting until January? If you're hoping for an 07 registration you have to wait until March 1st.

Not worried about the plate change since the car will have a cherished number anyway. I've been told that in 3 years time the difference between a Dec 2006 and Jan 2007 registered car would be £500+

I'm not convinced - but even if it was £500 smackers I'd have the car for christmas.

Chrome vs HGSL is down to personal taste really, but the colour of the car plays a big part. Personally I think the conservative or darker range of colours are complimented well by chrome, but the "flashier" colours look more aggressive with HGSLs - gives a nice constrast against the shiny wheels in profile view. Chrome is a delicate ingredient for a car recipe, but add too much of it, and the dish will be ruined.

This is the best I could find of a coupe with the HGSL:
