Whom do I blame...Verizon or BMW?
Well I got the phone cradle in the center armrest as an accessory. Yesterday as I was driving and talking the phone died. It ran out of power.
Apparently the cradle does not charge my phone, even if the car is on. I took it to the dealer and they say everything checks out and I should get in touch with Verizon. They tried a technician's older Motorola V710 and it charged fine. I saw it personally. Well I went to Verizon and they tried 2 brand new different Motorola V710's and they both didn't charge. My phone is 3 months old so that makes 3 new V710s that don't charge. Of course they said it was the cradle and I should talk to BMW. Bluetooth works absolutely fine and at least everyone at Verizon and BMW agrees that it shouldn't have anything to do with the software on the phone and if the phone charges with it's adapter then it should charge on the cradle. What to do now? |

You know, I was thinking of getting that cradle for my verizon Moto E815. The one thing I hate about Motorola phones is the chargers. I'm on my second car charger in two weeks and even this one is fickle (I have to play with it) I was thinking the BMW cradle might help but maybe not.

Sorry, I haven't got any help to offer here, but just wanted to say thanks for posting about this. I've been waiting for my local Verizon store to get a particular Motorola "BlueTooth enabled" phone in, never thought to check the charging situation out, but you can bet it's something I'll check on now!
Good luck. |

I have had 5 different Motorola models not including same model replacements and EVERY single one of them had to be replaced after about six months because the charger adapter would not stay conected to the phone. Including three V60's that made me start sounding like Darth Vader on the other end of the line after about 6 months. I know it wasn't just me because my brothers had the same voice problem on two of them and my mother on one of them.
I have an LG now and love it SCREW MOTOROLA! Jesse |

I'm not quite sure I understand the value of the accesory cradle. I have purchased a cigarette lighter charger for my phone and simply connect it to the phone using the connection in the armrest. Am I missing something?

I bought the cradle for my Verizon Moto v710 and it charges fine. I've had my phone since April.
mdemange, The thing you're missing is that by using the cradle, you bypass the phone's built-in antenna and you plug directly into the fin antenna on the roof. I've experimented while sitting in traffic and find that the roof antenna often gets five blips signal strength when I can only get 3 or 4 with the phone off the cradle. Plus I'm not being bombarded by microwave radiation inside my car from my own phone. Built-in charging, better reception, and less radiation exposure--I love mine. |

I left Verizon when I got my e90. That v710 is like a brick and has crippled bluetooth, and was expensive. I begrudgingly paid the $175 early termination fee so I could jump to Cingular and get the V3 RAZR, which pairs perfectly with the car.
It was the best move ever.

Main reason i'm still with verizon is because my phone still supports analog, so when I go outside civilization and really need a cellphone (dead car, etc), it will work. GSM no workie everywhere.

Razr supports analog.
In fact, it's QUAD mode.

Verizon is by far the best network. CDMA is not crap.
I have had a V710 since the day it was relased, sometime there is an issue with the charger making proper contact and actually charging the phone... so that is probably what is happening. Some GSM phones may support analog, but you have to make sure the carrier supports analog roaming and doesn't shaft you for it. Personally, I have a t-mobile Sidekick 2 that I used for SMS, IM and E-Mail, but I would never use them for a phone. I have been a verizon wireless customer since they were Bell Atlantic Mobile. PS- a CDMA RAZR is coming out sometime around the end of the year. In a slightly darker grey and with some upgraded features. |
