HPFP
Does anything know that they corrected this issue with the upcoming lci or the is? I want to get the '11 3 coupe but if this issue is going to running the entire life cycle, it may be a deal breaker....wth is BMW thinking?

Other than the fact that there's a new pump (943), which has been in since Dec '09 builds, there's no information suggesting a newer pump will be used in either the LCI 335i or 335is.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=333519 As far as the new N55 engine goes, it is still not clear whether or not it shall inherit the N54 HP pump problem. It is known that the N55 will have one turbo instead of two, but it may have the same or very similar induction system as the N54, and the same pump. We have to wait to see the new engine in operation. Last edited by Oulixes; 02-28-2010 at 07:54 PM.. |

Is not the n55 engine also direct injection. If so, it will have a HPFP. Whether it's the same pump I don't know. So I'm not sure you can say no problem.

Some think the new pump is really hogwash and BMW is just buying time with the NHTSA on a recall. I suppose we shall see. BTW, my dealer shop foreman is convinced the problem is related to dirt in the fuel causing the pump to clog and not ethanol damage like some people claim. He told me that in their experience they had a high rate of people claiming they started getting long cranks after allowing the fuel tank to run very low before fill up. Is that true or just speculation is anyone's guess!!! If so, maybe a better pre-filter is what they really need. |

I'm in no way advocating this as the source of the problem, I'm just leaving it open to discussion. BTW, I like your signature. |
