335i makes "Worst cars, year by year" list
If you don't happen to subscribe to Consumer Reports, the 2007 and 2009 RWD 335i (and the 2008 AWD) made their "Worst cars, year by year" list this year. I only post this to let people who haven't purchased one yet have a chance to see this information. I realize that the reflexive instinct of 99% of subsequent posters will be to delve into why their own personal experience is more statistically significant than Consumers Union's comprehensive, independent auto-testing program (based on 1.4 million vehicle reports) or how "BMW makes the best, most reliable vehicles on the planet" regardless of what the data says, etc.
This is the first time I've seen the 335i singled out as being separate from the 328i, upon which the reliability ratings have usually been based. The 328 is still average or better-than-average. Good luck. |

And if you saw CR's 10 best list for the year, you'd know how much bullshit that ranking is.
CR has turned into a bunch of bought off pricks.

HPFP perhaps? huge huge huge flaw in the car. definitely would be a dealbreaker for some buyers and CR has every right to get that info out there.

Impossible to argue with that, except it's a warranty swap.

as much as i love my car, it has had major awd/computer failure and i have had to have spark plus and coil packs replaced and the control arm bushing broke.
However, everything was covered and free of charge so it really didn't matter!

Give me a $47k loaded/drive-out car with the same power, luxury and handling then I will consider something else.
Note to self: audi fanboys will show up shortly. Note to self 2: i'm an ex-audi driver so don't fsck w me. |

Then again, if its not HPFP, why's the '08 RWD missing from the list? Knock on wood, my '08 has been flawless, but I do say a silent prayer and once in a while sacrifice a small live goat prior to starting the vehicle to hopefully fend off the dreaded long crank.... |

Some people dont want to be hassled by the process of having to take their car in when something fails even if it is covered by warranty i guess.
I personally love my car....more and more every day i drive it |

Their nomenclature is misleading; this article hardly lists the "worst cars." It doesn't even list the cars with the "worst" reliability, just the ones with below average reliability. And given the nature of the HPFP failures, I think it's a fair assessment to say the 335i has below average reliability.

Having your car accelerate by itself or your brakes to fail is far far worse than having your HPFP go out. Consumer Reports can go fuck themselves.

Consumer reports has always favored reliability and safety ratings FAR more than how a car drives. As for many Toyotas not being there, these recalls are too new to be included I'd assume.

1. Lexus LS460L 2, Infiniti M35X (AWD) 3. BMW 135i 4. Porsche 911 Carrera S 5. Infiniti M35 (RWD) 6. Mazda 5 7. Infiniti G37 8. Nissan Altima 9. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 10. Hyundai Genesis. Some of their high scorers aren't my kinda car, but some are. I would be willing to accept a 911 Carrera S as a gift if anyone is offering one. CR recommends the 328i 2007 and 2008 as a used car. They also recommend several years of Z3 and Z4s. If you don't want CR to know about your fuel pump, tell them your car is perfect when you fill out the questionnaire.
