Yes, because the stealer will think you might have done a M3 engine swap too.

I keed, I keed. No, it wont void the warranty, plus it's a OEM part.

Virually nothing will "void your warranty."

However, any aftermarket (and that includes OE parts never intended for your car) parts that cause a failure may prompt a dealer to refuse warranty service for that failure.

Accordingly, if your new steering wheel (or your install thereof) causes a failure, then the dealer should refuse to fix that failure under warranty.

that is unless you mess up and throw codes that are related to the steering column, (i.e. air bag light). But will still depend on the dealership if they want to instigate it more

It's corporate owned, right? You'd expect it to be held to a higher standard. They sell cars to diplomats.

Not quite correct. Installing an non-OE (original equipment) part (but one that might come as OE on a different model) is just as likely to cause warranty woes than a straight aftermarket item.

Couldn't they void your warranty if you install it yourself?

I would say if you install it yourself, yes, there could be a warranty issue. I have heard of people that do it through the dealer and that's obviously ok (expensive, of course).

If the installation involves something simple like changing wiper blades or installation of a regular bulb (Not HID), then the dealer will probably not void any warranty. You might get a remark from the dealership saying that "a bulb not approved by BMW was found installed in your car...etc".

With a steering wheel it might be tricky since it involves the SRS system (airbag). Being said, unless you (the OP) have lots of experience with airbags and SRS system, I would leave it to the dealership because an airbag is a safety device and shouldn't be messed around with unless you know what you are doing. The dealership can take the responsiblity if anything goes wrong during the installation whereas you will have to take care of it yourself if something goes wrong during the installation.
+1 ...you would rather be safe than sorry...especially when dealing with an airbag.

It could void parts of your warranty.

it is possible but not likely. as long as you don't screw anything else up with the install.

OP: the steering wheel, being a BMW OEM piece will actually have it's own warranty from the purchase date that will cover it. If something ever goes wrong and the wheel "you" installed and by "you", I actually mean you and not a BMW dealer, then you will resume responsibility for the parts you have installed

I did DIY swap of my 330i base steering wheel with an M steering wheel and never had any problems or issues with my local BMW dealers (Chicagoland). I even had my steering column replaced under warranty and the dealer couldn't care less about the steering wheel.
