He's probably just subtracting current miles from scheduled service miles...

I believe when you just put the FOB in the slot and hit start once then you can use your stalk to see how many miles left for service. Its there!

Yes use the turnstalk, but the car must be at a complete stop though.

You can also check it through I-drive, but I use the turn stalk since I don't have I-drive. Also the indicator always flashes by when you start the car too.

I am still not clear on this. Is the indicated miles how many left till service or when you hit that number you are due for service?

It's the number of miles to go until service. The countdown starts at 18K miles.

and i've driven my car 7,500 mls+ since and now it's reading 4,700 mls to go........

only 300 miles?

There are a lot of problems with the E90 countdown.

and it's STILL 15K! NOT 18!

Go to the dealer. Complain it's not counting down, or that it reads too high. WE WILL FIX IT!

Have a couple of times .... the tuggers at my dealer are sticking to the countdown. I've just said f$ck it and started doing my own oil every 5k. If they want to sneak one in there for free, be my guest. But I'm not going by the countdown for service.

Call BMWNA. tell them its not countingdown, and your service center is not fixing it.

Better every 9k miles aprox...

I have changed so:
From 28 feb 2006/0kms:
10 april 2006: ~4225miles (6800kms): Oil change, Gasoil filter.
26 may 2006: ~8345miles (13430kms): Oil change.
28 sept 2006: ~17420miles (28041kms): Oil change, Gasoil filter, Air filter.

So, my intention is to change it every 15.000 KMS... Better for car...IMHO

Not to be rude 2fed, but where did you get your engineering degree from? (if you ARE an engineer, SWEET! lol)

BMW has had 15,000 mile oil changes for over 20 years. They build an excellent motor, which lasts damn near forever. I had an E30 with 220,000 miles on it, NEVER had a motor problem ONCE. sure, other stuff broke, but never my engine.

BMW has spent countless man hours and millions of dollars deciding the best oil to use, and how often to change it. You can trust the 15,000m interval. It's got a proven track record.

I'm a BMW tech. I see ALL the broken cars. It's really pretty rare to see an engine problem. 9/10 times there IS an engine problem, it's because of LOW oil, or an over-rev.

Just did my first official service 2 days ago (Thursday) at 19,380 miles. Good thing I had the oil changed twice before that! First oil change AFTER 19,000 miles?...I don't think so!

Just got my car back yesterday for 15K mile service. They did the oil change, changed filter, replaced my seat (springs were coming up), and quite surprisingly the dealer changed my brake pads and brake sensor. Shelly BMW was great!! Big for Shelly

He's serious, but he's wrong. The E90 is having a BIG problem with innacurate oil change interval readings. We have a bulletin addressing it for the E60-E66 but it doesn't include the E90 for some reason. I have it on the authority of our BMW Field Service Engineer that E90's reading 18-19K between oil changes are WRONG and need to be fixed, through programming.
