I've never used TomTom myself so can't help you there. However if you don't mind using your phone as a sat nav you can buy a Sat Nav App for the i-Phone don't know how good it is though.

thanks guys if I get iphonewill be buying either the hard wired brodit cradle or the tomtom cradle so power not a problem.
Darkeeboy one question I have, could you try this and let me know what happens. If you are running tomtom and its navigating to your destination, what happens when a call comes in. For example on my HTC if tomtom is on and navigating or just tracking with GPS as I do that for speed cameras when a call comes in flashes up the phone display so you can answer then it returns to tomtom it just mutes the directions and continues running just as normal. Does the iphone do that or does it kick you out of tomtom, and if it does do you ahve to start setting your destination or just resume where it left off once you end call thanks

well its amzing what the phone places in town dont know, did some digging and turns out that on iphone the tomtom and copilot apps are fully locked. So you cant put camera alerts or custom pois. There is just about a back door to put POIs on TOMTOM on the iphone but the app does not have POI warnings so basically useless. I got to say its a joke, considering tomtom has had apps for windows mobile for over 5 years with all this functionality to bring something out half baked is a joke.
With Copilot only way is to jailbrake and thats not area I wish to touch. so thats that I either get TOMTOM seperate and IPHONe or its back to HTC. Doh

yeah, unfortunately the iphone can only handle one app at a time so any call kills TT and you have to reload and set up the navigate to bit again. This statement is what Ive researched rather than tested tho.

quite a bit of info here - says app restarts after phone call - but I guess you loose the navigation while talking, which could be an issue!

I'd definately wait.
There are already spy shots of the iPhone 4G (or parts of it at least) and you're looking at a release of June time. So if you can wait until then you'd save yourself the hassle of either having to buy a sim free 4G, or your new contract out.

Well I recon we'll start to see more in the coming weeks. There's already a few leaked parts showing it to be slighly longer than the current 3GS with a different screen.
However, all I'm saying is, don't go locking yourself in for 12-18 months now when there will be a new iPhone out in a few months.

I've also seen the parts showing a 3.7" iphone screen, sounds feasable as well.. i always think the phone you get comes down to what you want to do with it - if you want apps and 3d games iphone is still way ahead, if you want a bit of the apps thrown in but a more tehchnically supiror piece of kit get another HTC running android - ideally one of the newer devices (check the web tomorrow morning) Android is an awesome OS and some of the apps are great, just not enough of them (yet) |

ideally what I want is a device that will give good web / email, Satnav and decent multimedia so I can watch movies,
Right now Iphone is not best at that so the HD2 is becoming even more popular option, crazy that such expensive and advnace device cant multitask when windows mobile has been able to foryears, while an iphone is sleakest device it lacks in functionality and the cost of getting one keep going up. Just found out a snap in cradle for iphone is £90 for the LCI, ouch. If I can confirm either copilot or tomtom will work on HD2 I think it might be a short term fix certainly be more cost effective

If you jailbreak your iphone you can have multitasking, i.e. run TomTom and talk on the phone all at once. Jailbreaking is not as bad as it sounds, really easy to do now and you can always go back to normal at any time. Consider it.
